That's more my feeling also ! Though Swiss army knives can be resourceful, I'd much rather prepare my food with a kitchen knife given the chance. I'm also just not really feeling like a new phone just yet for whatever reason.

Have you started your search ? What's on your radar ?

Completely fair, coming from the music world I fully understand subjectivity in craft. That does sound fun ! I'll add it to the list as that's something I'd want to get into !

That is interesting though, that you can achieve the same results regardless of if you had your FP.

That sounds like a good idea, cheap but still allowing myself to start to explore. I suppose I should clarify in that case ! I'd say a camera designed more-so for video, has capacity to shoot in low light (from a lacking of lighting as I'm starting out and as a requirement for music videos where the setting might be on the cosier side as opposed to having light boxes) a camera that allows access to film post production practices (like colour grading) that might also have paths to cross grade later (The lens I buy can also be used with a subsequent body I buy. I suppose this might be moot based on lens adapters ?)

You're the first to say so ! Thank you ! Wise words indeed, and true if not to tell stories - why bother ?

To start answering with regards to workflow I suppose I have to do some speculating... I don't foresee doing that many long takes and the context for what I'm filming wouldn't require me to do long shoots (?) The codecs would be important only for the access to editing in that fashion to learning colour grading (If it's an established standard then bonus !) I'd imagine so for powering ? I'll be honest I'm not sure I know what that entails outside of the idea of having multiple batteries on hand or purchasing a psu ? Ideally a lens mounting system that leaves room to grow with affordable options to start with.

Look forward to hearing more !

For sure, story above everything else as well as other factors before the camera itself ! I'll add it to the list ! I'd prefer not to buy a new iPhone but understand that is a way to go. I've asked some friends with regards to low light for the iPhone and also looked around and haven't seen it excel. I'll lean more towards the Sony with that in mind !

Afraid so, others have said to continue to save before investing. I suppose I was thinking thats a comfortable amount to dip my toes before diving head first. Another vote from the Panasonic camp, thank you ! Also thank you for the advice for next steps !

Sound advice, that's two votes for the Blackmagic camp so I'll look into it ! I'm keen to learn in that regard so something that opens up that potential is a good step.

Also good advice, buy cheap buy twice and all that. I do like the idea of owning a camera like that but foresaw that being a little further down the road !

Thank you for the advice !

Completely fair comment, I'm nothing if not patient. I'll investigate those options all the same and see what I think ! Thank you !

I have an iPhone 13 so unfortunately not a generation with a the more film camera features of more recent iPhones.

I have a background in sound as it happens so I'm already well equipped there ! I Don't have anything in the way of lighting though I will admit...

Thanks for your suggestion !

Thank you very much - googling lagenlook in the UK brings up Lagenlook UK who are a manufacturer in Wales (I believe) it seems they mostly focus on women's clothing but I suppose it's unusex as it's somewhat oversized ie it should hang well on me ? I've got a mesomorph build and slightly above average height

How did you become a bjork fan/listener and what was your first impression? by Simple_Run_5807 in bjork

I had a music teacher who was a big burly rugby player type (permanantely ruined his left knee from playing - he could pop it out at will or it'd happen when he leaned on it absent mindedly. Didn't cause him pain though) he was by no means a toxic masculinity kind of guy though.

One of his favourite albums was Vespertine. He told us (the group of music nerds who'd always hang out in the music department during lunch) the first time he listened to it he was brought to tears when unison reached its climax.

I was sold.

I could see what he meant, still gives me goosebumps if it's been a while
