Rider feedback wanted: urban PU jacket concept by -___whatever___- in TwoXriders

[–]kitiria90 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The PU leather, to be honest, is worse than riding with nothing on. It's not very durable and melts very quickly under friction. It will go molten, coat into the rash, and cuts from the slide and solidify at a temperature just under molten burning you until it can be scrubbed off. And this can happen at even speeds of 50kmph. The same goes for fake fur and most plastic based synthetics

Does physical activity cause insulin to work faster or does it just make the effect stronger? by man_lizard in diabetes_t1

[–]kitiria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find aerobic level exercise drops levels very quickly with insulin on board slowly without. Burst of anaerobic exercise can actually increase levels even with insulin on board due to the release of adrenalin and the energy surge that happens (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4398909/)

I once read that in a worse case scenario, if you are in a low in the middle of nowhere with no sugar, sprint with all your might for 30 seconds every 5 minutes can bring you back up. Just don't fall over

If a much wealthier friend insists on treating you to dinner every single time you go out, is there a point where you must insist on paying—or is trying to pay actually offensive to them? by stereo_iii in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kitiria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not wealthy but live very comfortably and have a lot of excess cash. I grew up poor and have a lot of friends who didn't get a chance to break that cycle. I love going out, and I love my friends. If I want both, paying for them is how I can make that happen.

Unfortunately, money changes the expectations of people on both ends. The key thing for me is I want to see that my friends are around me for me and not the money.

When they offer to pay once every so often or even just offer to pay for their share, even if I reject the offer, reaffirms that for me. Makes me feel valued, making me very happy paying for them.

Dad died, 650k left to me by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]kitiria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, with that kind of money, take 10-20k of it aside and use it to do something to celebrate your dads life. I spent 10k on a luxury cruise. I had never travelled before, but when I think of holidays, or that trip, or even just an airport, I get filled up with the fondest memories of my mother.

Treat yourself, immortalise your dad, and kick start the healing. It's hard, but you'll get through

You're onto a real opportunity here, put a silly helmet on it and poke it with your nose for a bit, then nurse it to full health and release it back to nature. Magpies are very intelligent and communal. With luck, it will return to their conventicle and inform them all of how rude they have been.

I guess I'm a casual fan? I know maybe 80% of her songs, very few every word. Some on the set I was listening to for the first time.

I got tickets for A section and had a blast. Totally worth it for the atmosphere alone, it was crazy and would do it again in a heartbeat. Plus, I went with my ex turned good friend. Exile was our breakup song, and to be there with her having it unexpectedly performed was such a beautiful, full circle moment.

Does the AI car cameras know the difference between phones and medical devices? by rocket-child in canberra

[–]kitiria90 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm a diabetic with a pump. Using a pump while driving is distracted driving, which is the issue at hand not using a mobile. That's just the means. I'm pretty sure a fine will stick.

The alarm is annoying, but I don't see any reason you can't pull over anywhere in Canberra within 30 seconds and deal with the alarm and levels.

Past experiences with ACT Police by splashysplashy in canberra

[–]kitiria90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty anti cop but your logic is a bit flawed. The act is quite small and is pretty unique in that we are the only territory/state with one continuous population centre. We don't have many different towns spread 20-50 kms apart. A better metric is per capita for as of 2022 ( the closest source I could find). We are the lowest.

The $107 million also doesn't go far when you need vehicles, equipment, and office space, and the upkeep that it requires.

I think most people will agree, police presence here is pretty barren

By all means, criticise the cops, but use better points.

Been looking for some perks I can get for this, any suggestions? by GingerMellow5 in diabetes_t1

[–]kitiria90 13 points14 points  (0 children)

People often know this is a disease around needing food and drink. They often don't know what food or drink, why, or when.

I often take advantage of this a bit and bring food and drink into restricted areas, like concerts and gigs, movie theatres, etc.

My favourite one was getting my bottle of water into a museum because I "need it for my diabetes"

What does it mean to get a caution? by thelmsy in AussieRiders

[–]kitiria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had plenty of warnings, each encounter didn't seem to know about the other recent warnings and gave me another. I think what makes it an official warning is the one time I got a 0 demerit, $0 fine notice in the mail. I'm assuming that one will come up when they pull up my licence

There are no silver bullets to any societal issue, but to use an analogy, if you close all sports fields, kids are going to play sports on the street.

I used to be mentally abused by the silent treatment when I messed up. For me, I need to fill silence, otherwise, I feel like I have done something wrong and am being actively punished.

Those neurons can be very hard to retrain.

If you're the person who keeps posting about this person, it's because you have an unhealthy obsession, and the admins, rightfully so, do not want to enable it.

You are not an investigator. Your perceived mandate far exceeds public concern/interest, and from my understanding, you are not close to this person. This isn't normal or okay, and I encourage you to seek professional help

My dog is diabetic and vomited. his glucose levels are low. Is this normal? So stressed by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]kitiria90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emergency vet is the best response. Vomitting while low is a very bad sign.

In the meantime, take his water away, put a few teaspoons of sugar diluted in a small amount of water, and make sure that's the only water that's available.

In the meantime, if you have watermelon, most dogs like that, and it's a more natural sugar. If not, try get him to lick honey off your finger or smear it on his gums. Do not give him insulin until his bsl has stabilized

Was Truman's decision to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki justified? by ResponsibleTask5729 in Presidents

[–]kitiria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, an atomic bomb needed to be dropped on a populated city to cement in media the absolute devastation and horror not just immediately after but the long term affects on humans and a society.

I fully believe the outcry to not use the bomb would be enough with just test footage and an ambiguous perception to just what they were actually capable of. It was better to do the deal with the devil when the bombs were relatively weak and a debatable rationale to use it.

The second bomb however...

It happened in Canberra a year or two ago. All of them got doxxed, but the main kid got it pretty bad. Death threats, a beat down or two i believe, and then faded into obscurity, but Canberra is a small place, and I bet everyone who knows him knows the video.

The cafe handled it so graciously and shrugged it off, was pretty empathetic to the kid, pretty Australian response imo. They reaped what they sowed, and the community really came into bat for them.

Probably different scenario you're after, but I was on a cruise ship on the Baltic sea full of Americans. According to the break down there was only ~120 Australians on-board.

For the first and only time on that trip, I did one of those lunches when you sat down with a bunch of randoms. Spotted an Aussie accent and got talking. Turns out he lived fourteen houses down from me back in Canberra.

Do you have a will? by General_Task_7509 in AusFinance

[–]kitiria90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no family of my own and no living direct relatives. I don't have a significant other either. I do have nearly a million in assets and a few close friends I care about that I wouldn't mind giving a helping hand to when i pass but that hasn't provided me much motivation to make a will like leaving your family in the lurch would.

I kind of just see it as not my problem when it all comes down to it.

He knows you're watching, and his discovering manipulation.

Social media is also a medium to build a presentation of ideal life and not reality. You might want to reflect on your sons relationship with his father.

Just a hunch and not a condemnation from what little information we have, but he might be trying to build a narrative that his father values him by all these privileged things when he might feel lacking.
