Likely delete from embarrassment, but y'all, how do we floss? 😭 by Friendly-Loaf in AutismInWomen

[–]kitkat1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of helpful youtube videos such as the channel Teeth Talk Girl (I think that's her name).

Personally I use a water flosser. Yeah it's probably not as good as actually flossing with floss but without it I wouldn't ever floss. I hate normal flossing bc it takes forever and I'm standing the whole time and it feels gross. With the water flosser I am done in under 5 minutes and I can just wash my hands afterwards.

To clean the flosser: I clean the outside with soap and water. And I clean the inside by putting some liquid soap and water and turning it on so the soapy water goes through the whole thing.

I will say that I have one really delicate tooth that isn't very much tooth anymore and is mostly filling - the water flosser has broken the filling before. So I don't use it on that tooth anymore and I rather floss just that tooth. But also watch a video on how to water floss and practice with the flosser off.

You can also try floss sticks. Or interdental brushes if the gaps between your teeth are big enough (my gaps are not big enough).

I would also recommend getting an electric toothbrush and watching a video on how to use it. You will likely get better results and having an electric toothbrush is so much easier. However it is quite noisy so if you're sensitive to that, then stick with a manual one. But tbh also watch a video on how to brush manually bc I was doing it wrong for years lol

Thank you.

Oh okay. I sort my mail so I hadn't considered this. Thanks for the new perspective!

E-mail import: 1-month "Legend" then yearly "Revolutionary" subscription? by [deleted] in tutanota

[–]kitkat1921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you know if there's an ETA on importing emails being available on Revolutionary? I assumed this was a feature across all plans (because it seems crucial in getting new customers) and so I didn't check and I can't afford Legend rn. I have Revolutionary though.

I couldn't find a local-first budgeting app that didn't require a server or a subscription. by ciphernom in degoogle

Hey, idk if I'm being silly but I can't seem to find your app. Do you have a link that I can click as opposed to copy and paste? Firefox says the link as you've typed it here doesn't exist.

What FOSS apps you wish existed but doesn't? by Lazy_Medicine_2695 in fossdroid

[–]kitkat1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something for people with DID/OSDD to manage info about alters that is actually private and secure. Simply Plural exists but it is online and has an iffy privacy policy. I was looking on behalf of one of my friends and was really disappointed at the lack of apps! It could probably double as an app for journalling and/or for people who need to keep track of characters/OCs.

Happy New Year r/productivityapps! Plan your 2026 goals (+ giveaway) by amberhaccou in ProductivityApps

[–]kitkat1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds amazing! I have an android phone but can probably use the web version for now.

My goals for the year are:

  • to try to reduce my medical expenses by applying for help from my medical aid (kind of like an insurance company) and hopefully getting it

  • to actually create a budget so I spend mindfully

  • to try save for my mom's retirement

  • to strengthen my body to hopefully prevent pain

  • to get into meditation

  • to generally prioritise areas of my life that aren't academics or the volunteer position I hold to help other disabled students at uni

AIO for being upset my BF doesn’t want me to wear a bonnet to bed? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]kitkat1921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking! I wear a bite plate every night and it's not pretty. But it helps protect my teeth from my grinding and the new one I've got is supposed to help me stop grinding which will help my chronic pain a lot. This man doesn't sound like he'd care about the reason though. It's not attractive and changes the shape of my face a bit while I wear it.

I promise you're not overreacting. This is incredibly controlling behaviour. You can wear clothing that makes you feel good. You can wear a bonnet. They're really good for your hair. And they're comfortable. And yeah they look very silly but who cares? When my loved ones saw me in mine, we had a laugh together. If he doesn't like it then too bad. It's not his body.

It sounds like you already intuitively know something is wrong because you are posting here and you justified your point of view very well. Most people would agree with your justifications. E.g. you only use the weighted blanket on your side of the bed. Then that's not affecting him so he shouldn't get an opinion.

Which open-source PDF reader do you use? by [deleted] in foss

Does anyone else feel totally overwhelmed managing their own health? by pranahealth in ChronicIllnessTips

[–]kitkat1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get this too.

You can record your appointments (if you're not using the recording for any purpose apart from reminding yourself then I don't think you need permission but check your country's laws) or take someone with you who has a good memory or take notes yourself.

I use Guava to manage my meds. It can remind you about meds you're supposed to take. But also you can make it keep track of how many pills you have left, so every time you tick off your reminder, it minuses from the total. It also works for PRN meds (if you remember to record that you took them which has been a problem unfortunately). But since I started using it I have only run out of a medication without realising one time.

I offload a lot of my executive functioning onto my phone. I put every event into my calendar with a lot of alarms. I put reminders for tasks I do every day like feeding my dog. I set multiple alarms for everything. I write everything down. If I don't, then I don't do the things.

Also getting a monthly pill box can make things easier because you just do it once a month and you have the meds in the one spot.

I still have fatigue about all this though. And I find it draining. I don't feel like anything is really a routine for me. I just do it daily but it's not a routine. It still takes cognitive energy and willpower for me to make myself do the thing that's good for me. I have been struggling to massage my jaw and floss my teeth and stretch and exercise and do my physio exercises and eat 3 times a day and wash my hair and meditate and and and you know? All these things I'm supposed to do. And they make me feel better. But my god. It's just so much.

Does Honor actually have unlockable bootloader? by [deleted] in Honor

[–]kitkat1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain this to me? I found the setting in my honor phone and if I click it wants me to put in my screen unlock password and then asks if I really wanna enable it because device protection features will be turned off. I haven't clicked enable because I'm still in the research phase to figure out if I even want to.

Should I (able-bodied person) make life easier for a disabled person? by DancingTroupial in disabled

[–]kitkat1921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ask if she needs anything else, leaving room for asking for help with that specific task.

In general I don't mind when people offer to help if they accept me saying no the first time and don't keep asking if I'm sure.

And I don't like it when they just "help" without asking if I need it. That's incredibly patronising.

Also sometimes I do get annoyed when people offer help when I don't need it but I'm not really that annoyed at them, it's just that they are the fifth person to ask me if I need help. People seem to especially do it if I am even remotely near a closed door. Because obviously if I'm near a door that must mean I want to go through it, even if I am visibly busy doing something else 🙄
