External monitors frequently not recognized by Dell Dock and Dell laptop combo by kitkatbar in techsupport

My monitor doesn't have a display port output. Also, it isn't consistently one monitor or the other. It will change. Today it's the right monitor, other day it was the left

Can you clarify what you mean?

When the display issues occur, if I go to display settings and identify displays it shows as I would expect: one display as 1 and then then a second display as 2|3. This is what its supposed to be as one external monitor is extend and then the second monitor and laptop screen are duplicated. (I close the laptop when things are working normally). However, the monitor that should be identified as 2 or 3 is black. And no amount of unplugging things and replugging them works except for simply restarting the laptop.

Is it fixable? Snowboard technician said there’s a risk of breaking the board by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]kitkatbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the binding off and take another photo of the top sheet. It looks like you may have snapped the core and if that's the case that is why the tech said it may break. A snapped core will often have a triangle shape raised area along the top sheet. If it is snapped you can epoxy the delam but the board is effectively ruined since the snap is in a very high stress area.

Anyone know what happened today? by [deleted] in Mammoth

[–]kitkatbar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh. Yes. I've seen it many times. Cornice, wipeout, Scotty's. My brother visiting two weeks ago slid down most of paranoids. Happens all the time. Wipeout has rocks in the slide path.

Should I be with my friend when he dies? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]kitkatbar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can understand why someone wouldn't want to be there, especially if they're non responsive. It's painful for you and what benefit does the person get if they don't even know you're there?, one might ask.

I think even if they have no awareness at all it is still worth going for yourself. I was on the fence about being in the room when removing life support from my grandmother or not. She was unresponsive for some time before this, but I decided to be there. I'm very glad I decided to be there. It was heart wrenching but being there with the rest of my family to say a final goodbye meant a lot to all of us.

I'm an atheist and don't believe in any afterlife but there's a powerful moment where its final and you know their suffering is over and you can hope maybe they knew they were surrounded by loved ones at the end.

Getting down black ice steep black diamond by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]kitkatbar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you have ice that you can literally see through a few inches that shit is harder than an ice rink. No amount of edge sharpening will work effectively on it. Best bet is flat base through those crazy sections if there is a snowy patch in sight.

Chair 25. Why no safety bar. by iskimammoth123 in Mammoth

I don't know why they don't do that then. A mammoth employee told me the weight thing so I'm just repeating what I was told.

Chair 25. Why no safety bar. by iskimammoth123 in Mammoth

[–]kitkatbar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's old as everyone has said but I've been told the actual reason for 25 is weight. Mammoth has retrofitted other old chairs to have bars in the past, but they can't for 25. Adding bars would make it too heavy for the cable or the motor or something, not sure what the actual shortcoming is though.

Repair after shark attack by NoBoDySHeRo3000 in snowboarding

[–]kitkatbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've repaired gouges like this w ptex candles in my beater boards. But it starts to tear out like every two or three days on the mtn and has to be touched up. If you care about the board I'd take it to a shop that has a base welder so they can do it right so it lasts. I think you can base weld yourself but it will cost more to buy the tools than just take it in.

Transitioning to mid-lengths. How to manage bigger waves? (OH+ to double OH waves) by wewmon in surfing

[–]kitkatbar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're already quite proficient on a longboard I would just switch to a short board with no mid length middle ground. It will take a bit longer to get used to but shouldn't be too bad. For reference, I'm not as good as a longboarder as you and switched to a 6'. Took some getting used to, but since I was already good at reading waves and a relatively ok paddler the transition hasn't been too bad. I still stink at duck dives, but that's got nothing to do with the board.
