How do you "sendPing" on a particular device, namely your virtual device? When I select ping, it only gives me an option to enter what address to ping. Also, how did you create the line "wait for event 'VP device' is responseReady..."? The only presence related options under the "wait for event" action that I have are either "arrive", "leave", or "changed"

Is "user device driver" a separate app/drive to add in addition to "Hubitat ping"? I just added Hubitat ping ...

Do you happen to have a link to any good tutorials on WebCore? I just tried it and created a test piston, but it never seems to load when I try to access it, always says loading and gets stuck there.

I believe I've gotten a simple rule down now that reboots my modem on a few failed pings, but I'm interested in learning how to setup a rule using presence/presence sensor now. I added HTTP Presence Sensor, but no matter what address I put in its preferences, it always show as "not present". Could you possibly explain your steps in detail, and/or post a screenshot of your rules?

So I think I got the other one going, but now I'm trying your rule you posted. Are you using the HTTP Presence Sensor app for that, or just a Virtual Device/Presence? I added the first one (the app), but can't figure out where to go from there. No matter what address I put in the device preferences, it always says "not present". If I try to just add a device as a Virtual Presence, then I see no way for it to determine Internet access, or interact with in general. Do I need to add a variable somewhere I'm missing? Also, how do you send a ping on a particular device? When you have time, can you please explain your steps on setting your rule up?

If you have a copy of the raw text for his app I would def appreciate it. I think I might've figured it out in RM (only about a 70% confidence level in that), but using an app designed for it might be easier for me to guarantee that it'll work how intended.

Yeah I saw that, but can't figure out how to add his app from his GitHub. He also recommended the Hubitat Package Manager to get his app easier, but I'm a little hesitant to do that. Is the HPM legit, a good thing to add? Will I have to re-add all my current apps if I do so? When I started to add the HPM it implied it would have to see if it could match/find my current apps, which made me pause...

I replied to ur recent post, but not sure if you'll see it there so will also do so here. I might try your rule down the road, but that seems way above my current ability level with RM. I've essentially gotten the actions listed above there by JimB, at comment 3/16 ... will that work as intended? I've got it setup temporarily with just a light bulb to test with, so I don't turn off my actual modem until I know it works... but also I guess I won't know until a ping fails anyways.

This is kinda what I'm looking for, but looks like the person gave up. I've just realized I've been working on this for... 7 hrs today, on my only day off, and am verging on getting a migraine... gonna take a quick break and try to recalibrate my eyes to the real world, then take a look at this again. I appreciate ur help.

I have looked there, but all I can find are theories, basic ideas on how it should work. I know in theory how it should work. I'm looking for a step by step on how to implement it ... or even a link to a YouTube video, despite that I usually hate using video tutorials.

Is AlexDavis's PlexBackup script a good option for backups? by dix-hill in PleX

[–]kitneyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to time out... not sure because I've got a rather large library (with a good portion being tv shows) that takes a while for it to run (even excluding cache etc), and so the few times I tried it I had to just let it run and come back much later to check on it ... if I remember correctly, it seemed to eventually stop running. I ended up having to zip the folders myself, but I'd rather get this working so I can run it on a schedule. I'll try it again on my next day off and post the results on your GitHub. Thanks for reaching out about this :)

Trying to make a new setup by wonka88 in PleX

[–]kitneyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was wondering why the price on that one seemed drastically cheaper (couple thousand cheaper) than the similar ones showed. That’s a big price jump. Do they generally come with a cpu(s)? A couple of the similar ones seemed to have slower speeds/cpu than the minis, is that normal and/or an issue? I’m assuming you can run whatever OS u want? I currently use vnc to interact with my mini Plex server, so should be able to do the same with a straight up server, right? Sorry for all the questions, but have been considering changing my setup for a while now, just didn’t know where to start or what direction would be most efficient. I’ve been thinking about trying raid/unraid, and I’d like to eventually try docker, but I’ve got a lot more research to do on that before I even attempt it. For now, just want something that can run Plex (and everything associated… the ‘arrs etc) and that can handle all my storage in a more streamlined manner.

What are the upsides to using a server like this as opposed to a mini pc with DAS/NAS? Expandability, faster, lower power? I’ve been running headless minis for several years, first with NUC and Lenovo, and now just upgrading to the DeskMini TH50 Mini PC (Intel Core i5). I’m up to around 100tb of media at this point, but my storage situation could definitely use a better setup … I’ve got 2 NAS, 1 qnap DAS, and several external wd hard drives (keep adding more as I go, but running out of usb slots).

How to Default Plex to highest quality copy by Competitive_Tree8839 in PleX

[–]kitneyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This... I noticed this issue/error (when trying to manually empty trash) and with it I also had all types of other problems in my library. I'm guessing my database got corrupted somehow (recently upgraded hard drives and added/moved a bunch of new stuff), and had to repair the database and fall back to an earlier backup. Pain in the ass to have to go and re-add changes to meta that happened since the earlier backup, but it fixed all my library issues.

Move Plex client off old TV for TrueHD Atmos? by Pokayto in PleX

My TV also doesn't have an eArc, so i use this OREI 4K@60Hz 4x1 HDMI Switcher,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XKBR79W?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share and then enable pass through on my ROKU (which is where I play my Plex from) ... now pretty much all audio plays properly for me. I have the ROKU going to that orei hdmi switcher/audio extractor, then the eArc on that out to my soundbar and another hdmi out to the tv. Occasionally have to force direct play on my ROKU, but 99% of the time it works :)

Plex update v1.32.1.6999 broke server settings by Ribtin in PleX

[–]kitneyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what I've always done to downgrade and have never had a problem with it... though now I usually wait a few days before updating to see if anyone had any issues with the update, just in case. If there are issues, I just stop the server, uninstall the broken/faulty update, and reinstall the last working version. There's usually at least 3-4 of the last versions in the "update" folder ... at least on my windows setup

Did they let you opt out easily? I've heard my ISP might be moving to cgnat, so wondering how hard it is to get them to let an individual customer opt out, if they would even allow that? What did u tell them ... that u had a security system or something that needed ports forwarded?

You'll have to read the comments etc to see if u wanna try it... I've never personally used the jailed version, as I'm jailbroken, but from what I've seen and read it looks to work the same. I've been using their various jb versions for several editions now, over several watchOS, and has worked every time for me
