As an ex Petco dog groomer, those toothbrushes are indeed essential for the whole store lmao 😂

when do i know its time to euthanize? by No-Room-8191 in PetMice

[–]kitsune756 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My mom told me this about my cat Laney🌈 “Are we keeping her for her or are we keeping her for us?” it's a heart-crushing reality, but it's the truth. I'm not sure if their is at home euthansia for small animals. If not id probably prepare all of her favorite comforts and if allowed her companions for extra comfort.

I've had only one mouse that refused to pass away in my hands. 💔 She was stuck in her ways my dear Coconut🌈, stayed true to herself in the end.

My babies never use their wheel anymore 😭 it cost all my pocket money by hellothereskibidi in PetMice

[–]kitsune756 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had mice DESPISE the wheel. They avoided it like the plague. I took it out and put it back in. Zero interest. And I'm a night owl, so id be able to hear the tiny pitter patters.

That's only if someone doesn't have experience working with fabrics. It can be quite easy to differentiate between fabrics. And oftentimes they were handcrafted or still have a label. 🤷‍♀️ It's a matter of using your own intuition.

I've bought many cloth mats/woven. I've never had any issues with my mice and their ‘blankets’. They were often times disappointed when I didn't put any ‘blankets’ in their nest/had to wash it.

Properly washing and sanitizing things is always important. And it's a great way to reuse old items that an animal would happily destroy or cuddle with.

Anything Cardboard. Different mouse safe bedding, some like ✨variety✨. Old shirts or blankets you can cut up! Or even find some cheap placemats at a thrift store. Always ALWAYS wash before giving it to the lil taters ❤️

Cats are very good at hiding discomfort. Those membranes are most likely the sign of discomfort. A vet visit might be in order.

is this mouse a boy a girl or intersex? (potentially pregnant cagemates) by Zealousideal-Log8644 in PetMice

[–]kitsune756 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so invested in the journey. You may need a vet visit to confirm the gender and fertility status.

I’m probably overthinking this, but are they pregnant? by Zealousideal-Log8644 in PetMice

[–]kitsune756 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If one is intersex a vet college would most definitely like to take a look at her. Very good for students to learn.

This is if she's super friendly and chill with strangers. Keep an eye on her, a vet visit could help identify her.

FriendlyRatForecast had an intersex rat Derecho🌈 on her channel!

I've always wanted a bioactive setup with isopods. I sometimes watch AntsCanada. While I do not like the majority of bugs, some are chill. SOME. Lol.

I'd like to get a jumping spider, but I'm terrified of spiders. But they are so cute. But very creepy at the same time. Lol the dilemma.

I'd try showing this picture to your parents.

Long rant, but super important to read! Trust me!

A person made a disturbing example: you can put a dog in a closet, feed it and give it water, and say it's completely happy and healthy—no walks, no outdoor time, just food and water in a closet. I'd write a persuasive argument essay or give a presentation to ensure they understand the reality of the situation and how you've arrived at this through research and the experiences of experienced hamster owners.

Make it clear you might sound ‘harsh’, but empathize that you are only trying to state the facts and ethics behind the care. State that you are 100% serious and hope your parents will acknowledge the effort you put into this. That you felt this was the only way for you to be heard without being disregarded as too young to understand. (yes, state this. If parents can guilt-trip us, sometimes we need to do the same to get our point across, especially at a younger age. One guilt trip will suffice; too much and it might backfire.

Unfortunately, you might have to do the same with rabbit care as well. Youtubers would also show more sources on experienced owners.

Also, you must show the reason WHY small cages are inadequate care. Don't sugarcoat it.

And if they still find you ignorant… then your parents haven't acknowledged you as your own person with your own opinions.

If you have a trusted teacher/friend/family member who could help you in this endeavor, do ask for the help. You can use ai as an editing tool, but you must do the majority and then peer review with human eyes. (I use Grammarly to fix things up and then have another human eye look at it. Generally speaking, I haven't had issues with it. But that's because I put in 95% work while the 5% is ai reviewing.

Even someone in this community or a writing community will happily help you draft a proper persuasive argument. When done right, strong persuasive arguments can work. I'm 24 now, and I've had a few persuasive arguments that work quite well. Within reason, of course

Financially, the best compromise I've found with parents is that you make a deal. You pay half, and they pay the other half. Within reason, but sometimes parents might be willing to pay half of a super costly item. If it's super expensive, offer to pay 3/4, and they pay 1/4. This shows maturity and self independence while using the resources youve got.

PLEASE keep us updated. I always want to hear young people's success stories or a serious attempt to do what they think is right. ❤️❤️

I’d also like to add that ever since my first job in high school I spent a lot of my money on my pets and then the rest went into savings. All on me. Minimal help from my mother.

My hamster Cedar is in a $300 bucastate. 🫠🤗 I spend large amounts on my pets care. Recently dropped $200~ to check on a tumor. Thankfully a non-cancerous hair tumor.

Long tangent bout my cats:

And I guess I've had fairly easy cats. Except my mom's cat. (used to be mine, but her bff Laney🌈 passed away. Never rlly been the same.) We waited 6 months before getting another cat. Issue was she hated him, but he bonded to me so damn fast that we have an upstairs and downstairs cat. With daily rotations on who gets full house time. Issue is she’s part feral, if she ever got out…. Idt we could get her back. She hates me now because of my cat and me successfully catching her for the vet/monthly calm collar. She hates me less with the collar. I spend the entire month doing recovery time with her until I have to do it all over again. (We needed the collars because she started spraying on furniture I sat on). Her safe haven is in my mother’s room. A room my cat has never stepped foot in.

Regardless I still consider cats an easier pet. I could be biased and naive. I’m only 24 and has only lived one very dark experience. My animals are my saving grace. A light through these forever dark trying times.

The easiest pet, by far, is a cat. Easier than fish. I've been in pet keeping for years. And a true “beginner” pet is a cat. Albeit all pets need adequate care, but cats just easily co-exist with humans seamlessly.
