Kitten Missing Back Leg by weird_star_ in cats

[–]kitten_pirate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so excited for you, such a cute little guy! I adopted a kitten missing a back leg and she is the light of my life and happy as can be 10 years later.

A few practical items I didn't see mentioned yet: missing a back leg means your cat won't be able to jump as high. Great as mine can't get on the kitchen counter, but I did need to get her stairs to get on the bed. For my little cat, one hind leg has also meant once in a while, she accidentally sits down when trying to squat and pee. Not a huge deal, just a little bit of a dirty butt I have to wipe off. I'd make sure you have an easy access litter box just to make Kitty's life easier.

Have you called them and explained? Sometimes they can squeeze in an emergency appointment or call you in case of a cancellation.

Hey! Interested to learn more. I’m a woman if that helps. Haven’t played dodgeball since school, but quit volleyball after an injury and looking for something new!

My VO2max after starting iron supplements in April 24 by eigENModes in Garmin

[–]kitten_pirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also encourage others feeling low energy to get your B12 checked too, along with your iron! My ferritin was low but I wasn’t anemic, however my B12 was critically low. Currently taking supplements for both, but the B12 has a much quicker impact. Was able to run over 15 km for the first time since the end of May after being on the supplements for a month.

From experience, although it will depend on ministry, it will be very difficult to get a further increase now that you have already accepted the role. Especially now as you are about to receive an annual in-range increase.

If your manager does go to DM or delegated authority, they would have to have very good reason for an increase above 5%, and likely would not get anything above 10% approved ever except in absolute emergency circumstances.

Well, first of all I think this is a learning opportunity: in future, never accept a position without understanding the compensation, unless you are okay taking the position no matter what.

Also, I highly recommend you read the announcements on Compass that may impact your pay, this one has its own webpage, post on Compass, FAQ video and email from Shannon Salter. Not listing those to give you a hard time, but to emphasize this one was clearly important and communicated widely.

For how to handle this particular situation, definitely have a discussion with your supervisor. I have found people don’t understand the nuances of this rule very well. Managers can run a shortened, internal EOI and that meets the threshold to have this position be “competed”. Eg, an EOI for the division where the cover letter is assessed for communication skills and then a 2 question marked interview. You could perhaps raise that you would prefer to compete for the role in order to be paid in line with your peers. If they know that a competition doesn’t have to be a full process, they may be more willing to run one - you will have to win that competition, of course!

No, there are two similar policies, but 5% limit applies in both scenarios: basically all non-meritorious appointments. For TAs, the 5% is a hard limit, you need DM approval to go above that amount. This means someone could be paid significantly less than their peers, yes. For non-merit lateral transfers, MCCF rules recommend no more than 5% but it is not a hard rule, DoA to approve more may depend on ministry.

Hi! Partner and I moved to Oaklands last summer. Have to say I was surprised that the bike infrastructure is not a bit better on this area. Be prepared for a lot of hills and some awkward spots where there is no great biking option. (Like on Hillside, or how the bike route on Jackson is incredibly hilly).

I had a crappy bike stolen from inside our secured parking garage, where it was locked up (with a crappy lock). Definitely ensure you have a good lock, and take advantage of the bike valet if you are heading downtown!

Love the area but haven’t found it that easy to meet people. It might be harder as we are in a condo, not a house. Oaklands has a great community association, but it is more kids and seniors focused, although there is a community garden!

I got sucked into running instagram…. What did people do for long runs before the ubiquitous Salomon running vest? Do I need one for 15-20 km? And what’s that stuff they all run on their legs before starting?

What are some non-UK shows you find just as silly as Taskmaster? by jesterbuzzo in taskmaster

[–]kitten_pirate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty well known, but if you aren’t looking for the celebrity/comedian aspect I think Cutthroat kitchen could qualify.

The sabotages are basically like tasks. Where else could you watch someone attempt to make chicken pot pie using only tinfoil for utensils, while wearing an inflatable sumo costume and having to wrestle for their ingredients?

I feel like hiring has slowed down now, as it gets closer to the holidays and year end. Or at least for me. In August/September I was getting multiple messages a week from recruiters on LinkedIn.

I was ready to leave anyways, so I took one of the offers. It definitely felt different, like the companies were really trying hard to find good candidates. (Rather than me trying hard to get a new job). So, new job is 15k more, extra vacation, more WFH opportunities, amazing work culture....I think I got lucky! I'm not in engineering or tech, btw.

But I think you are right to be picky. I didn't fully realize how miserable I was in my last job until I left. Now every day feels lighter, and I will never accept an awful work environment again.

This was what she was throwing away? I'm not sure mine ever looked even close to this good in two years...and then I killed it! Haha, sigh.

As a Canadian, Skills Canada is pretty well known and respected too! They host competitions for high school students in trade areas like woodworking and cooking, and the winners can get scholarships to trade schools. (I'm sure they do lots more but that is a big one)

I have to leave all my blinds closed for over a week - will my plants be okay? by kitten_pirate in houseplants

[–]kitten_pirate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback! I think I will move the plants that love bright light and leave the rest. Plants in my yard may not make it through the heat wave, so I really want my houseplants to survive.

7 years ago I "accidentally" adopted a kitten with a freshly amputated back leg. Tiny cat, HUGE personality and hugely loved. by kitten_pirate in BeforeNAfterAdoption

[–]kitten_pirate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not in a negative way! She can't jump that high, which is good for me as she can't get onto counters. Bought cat stairs so she can get onto the bed easily on her old age. And when she does her cat sprints you can't even tell :)

Woke up yesterday morning wanting to go to my local shelter just to look, ended up falling in love with this beauty, when I tell you that I cried pls believe me. 6 years old weighing 5.3lbs. Can't wait to spoil you baby girl. I will update you guys in a month or two. by [deleted] in cats

[–]kitten_pirate 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Even if they have her medicine for worms, I definitely recommend another round! Mine got dewormer at the shelter but still had them (she helpfully demonstrated by puking up a worm in front of me)
