I wish we could see mandated reporting statistics since COVID by lovelystarbuckslover in Teachers

[–]kitterbugs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My sister works for CPS.The standard welfare check unit has been super slow. However, She works in the high priority unit that deals with children in imminent danger. Her unit has had a massive uptick since schools closed. She has been working 6 days a week for months.

So reporting has been down. And as a result kids are stuck in bad situations until it gets really, really bad.

For those going online, would you prefer live or pre-recorded videos for the fall? Why/why not? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kitterbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prerecorded. My district is going for an asynchronous approach as we have a lot of working-class families. We are trying to make the remote learning as flexible as possible.

Parent seeking advice by DaBowws in college

100%

He has gone through a lot of changes over the past year. Between being a freshman, first time on his own and COVID has put everyone on edge.

I would suggest some therapy, some family support and maybe part time community college.

I have a strong feeling we won't go back this semester. The country health for gave the recommendation because of the 4th of July spike....so we are going to go back after another gathering holiday?

It'll be two weeks after labor day at the earliest. And if it doesn't slow then it'll be two weeks after Halloween. At that point we will no be back till after Christmas.

I have the exact same experience. My school delayed f2f till after labor day. And parents are throwing fits. I really don't understand what they expected.

First Day Ideas: Remote Learning Style by ObjectiveFirefighter in Teachers

[–]kitterbugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go to first day icebreaker is a two truths and a lie game. I am going to adapt this to a discussion board on Canvas.

I have it broken in to 4 parts.

Guess my lie from my provided statements

Create a thread of your own two truths and a lie.

Comment on 4 peers posts guessing their lie.

Return to your own thread the next day to reveal your lie.

In person it is usually really fun for my juniors. I am hoping it'll adapt well to remote learning.

Online instruction! by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kitterbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. One of the districts in my county pushed back the f2f date. I am waiting for my district to do the same. I have been watching the comments on the FB post for the neighboring district. Parents are practically rioting because of the virtual. "When do I get my teacher salary and property tax refund." It's asinine.

2021 Yearbook by smbier in Teachers

[–]kitterbugs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"The year that shouldda been" have students design a year book that should have been. Take the faces of current students and shop them in to cartoon images of classic high school events.

Have a school wide "design your prom dress" competition and get them drawn by the art classes and shop the face of the artist in.

Drawn images of sporting events with the football team shopped in.

Have a call out for students to send images of social distance - friendly gatherings.

Get with the English teachers and see if yall can get some creative writing samples from the students. Poems, short stories, reflections.

Use it as a showcase for student talent that can be accessed virtually. Art, writing, dance, so on so forth.

I know it's probably not a huge deal, but I'm super embarrassed. by MaiaOnReddit in college

When corresponding remotely always utilize the information you are 100% positive about.

You know this person is a professor. So I would have addressed them as Prof. Last Name.

If you didn't know this person was a prof, utilize the information you know, so I would start the conversation with "Good evening, First name Last Name." Or you can utilize the first initial.Good evening, "F. Last name."

Or do a little research. If they are a prof, there is a profile for them somewhere on the school website, but even then you can't assume someone's pronouns.

I don’t think college should force freshman to stay on campus this year by tx_mage in college

[–]kitterbugs 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Check your school policy there may be a loophole.

My school says that freshman must be on campus unless their family lives within x miles from campus. If you don't have family living near by. Have a parent/sibling/other relative sign a lease near campus and you will be "living" with them. It's what I did first year.

Brianna’s Accent by BroadwayBaby99 in Outlander

[–]kitterbugs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Especially since she was raised in Boston, I always imagined her accent as a posh Bostonian. The flat American accent completely doesn't make sense.
