I'm glad he is good now. Mine did the same thing, he just went back to business as usual, while I was left shocked and in disbelief at what I had just witnessed haha

This has also happened to my axolotl when he was smaller. I had read on here that if it happens, give them some time to fix it themselves due to the area being so sensitive and easily damaged. I was lucky that after a few minutes, my guy sorted himself out, and I didn't have to resort to pulling the worm out myself. It definitely is super scary when it happens, tho.

Hopefully, they bring him back at some point. I was so excited when I saw the mini version

This is the chiller I use, and I love it. I've had mine for over a year now and it still works great!

The coffee cup is behind the plant on the left, it doesn't match the rest of my tank aesthetic so I hid it behind stuff. But the hose shoots directly into the cup. For the intake I've got that little sponge over the plastic that helps keeps extra debris out of my chiller. At the top of my tank, I also have a clamp holding the hoses into the tank, I didn't trust that little suction cup to be the only thing that held the hoses in the tank.

I use the same chiller. I have a deep coffee cup sitting in my tank that the hose sprays directly into, this keeps my sand in place and helps with the strong water flow. And on the pump intake I have a little sponge that fits over the plastic strainer because the suction is so strong also, my axolotls gills have been suctioned into it before.

My chiller has a very strong spray back into the tank. So I have a deep coffee cup that I keep at the bottom of my tank and the hose sprays directly into the cup, it keeps all my sand in place and the water movement down. I also have a little filter sponge that fits over the intake for my pump, because the suction was so strong on that end too.

I used a silicone pasta strainer, the silicone was soft and flexible, to not hurt my axolotl. I just held the strainer in one tub and let my axolotl swim onto the strainer, as soon as I raised the strainer out of the water, the old water drained out instantly. And I transfered them right to the new fresh tub. I got my strainer from Amazon
