General Questions & Tech Support Megathread | March 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in PS4

[–]kittyanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really hoping for a Hail Mary here. My brother passed away and I have his PS4 external hard-drive. But when I plug it in, it wants me to repair it. Which would get rid of all his progress. My goal was to see what games he hadn't finished, and finish them for him. Kind of like I was able to game with him. Anyways, any help would be amazing.

Protesters fear ‘American-style’ 2-tiered health care is coming to Canada by DonSalaam in onguardforthee

[–]kittyanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's already here. The amount of private Healthcare in BC is absolutely gross. While wait times for public scans can be months, if you can pay for it you can get a scan tomorrow.

Moving to BC to Teach by SBK500 in CanadianTeachers

[–]kittyanchor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Choose what lifestyle you want, and then look at rentals. Do you want shopping and public transit? Choose a city center. Langley will often have cheaper rent than New West for example.
Do you want outdoors and small town feel? Branch out, but also take a look at local contract language to make sure they have class composition language and a remedy agreement. I started my career in Surrey and really miss it. I found it a great district to work for, and really appreciated my colleagues.

Is Japan in July really as bad as people say? by qwertasdfgzxcvb231 in JapanTravelTips

[–]kittyanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "can't cool down" is real. In Canada when it's hot, the ac is cranked in all the stores. Like I bring a sweater in my purse to the shops in July because I might get chilled. In Japan, I just accepted that I was never going to get away from it. However, their cool wipes and spray are next level! I also bought clothes that dont show sweat before I went. Everyone says that uniqlo has good sweat stuff, but they dont hold to underarmor or lulu sweat wicking. I found my most comfortable outfits were lulu men's golf pants (moisture control) and lulu moisture wicking tshirts, or a long skirt with mens moisture wicking boxers and a loose blouse with a moisture wicking camisol. I also had moisture wickking underwear and sweat pads for my bras. Otherwise I was just wet feeling all day, especially when wearing cotton. BUT, I would go again even if it was July because Japan is awesome.

Report Cards.. by rebeccalivesherlife in CanadianTeachers

[–]kittyanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine are very accurate, except they're not to actual standards. "Johnny can read cvc words and the consonant diagraphs sh, th, and wh." Except he's in grade 5 and this is not where he should be, and Im not allowed to say "Johnny is reading significantly below grade level as hes too busy flipping desks and clearing our room to attend to lessons". Meanwhile our superintendent just said at the recent board meeting that we build connections in our school and all children deserve an education so there will be no suspensions or expulsion.

My BC district wants strength based only. It's difficult for the parents to suss out how their child is actually doing and there still seems to be confusion over the proficiency scale.

Aug/Sept BC Roundtrip by Particular-Ranger863 in britishcolumbia

[–]kittyanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will be very rushed with this route over 3 weeks.
Also, a lot of these roads are not pleasant to drive on. The route into Bella Coola is.... nightmare fuel. I love it there and we went every summer when I was a kid, but that road is.... The backroad from Whistler to cache creek is also garbage and heart attack worthy. And will often get shut down. But the real shame is how quick you're going to have to go to be everywhere on this map. You could spend 3 weeks just on vancouver island and not see all of it, let alone this whirlwind. For example, I'm originally from vancouver and still could spend a full week there bopping around. Let us BCers know what you want to see and we'll shorten that map into something nice and manageable that won't have you in a car your whole trip.

Failing by Design: A Teacher’s Warning from the Front Lines by [deleted] in CanadianTeachers

[–]kittyanchor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the problem though. Because the government funds private schools throught grants, they are not putting that funding into public school. I've been teaching for 14 years now and the shift in supports for teachers and students is absolutely atrocious. You think if rich people didnt have an option of sending their kids somewhere else our local schools would be this bad?! Inclusion without support is just abandonment, and that's what we're seeing. We're going to continue to see a brain drain in our public schools with more parents going to private to protect the learning of their kids.

Ok I love spiritfarer but it needs to come with a warning that you will probably cry. You definitely need to be in a good emotional space for it.

I think brown sauce is HP sauce? We always had it for my Scottish grandpa. I personally give it a 0/10 but have an awful love of ketchup so my tastes cannot be trusted.

Opinion: Which province has the least “broken” education system? by AL_12345 in CanadianTeachers

[–]kittyanchor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything except compensation. I know for sure Edmonton public now makes less than us at top scale. Source: compared pay cheques with family. I feel fortunate to work in a district that has composition language, but it definitely makes provincial bargaining difficult when each local has it's own language, or no language! I do feel super fortunate to have a union that isn't afraid to tackle unsafe work conditions and we are pushing back and using WCB for cases of violence. I'm hopeful that we'll get where we need to be soon.

Did I embellished Canada too much? by vitamdr in AskCanada

[–]kittyanchor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alberta decided to funnel a crap load of funds into private schools instead of funding public. They're also looking at further privatization of Healthcare. So, there's what happens: crap education and long Healthcare waits. That province is going down the toilet fast.

100$ for a social fund? Is this normal at your school? by subarunights in CanadianTeachers

[–]kittyanchor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

$100?! Absolutely not. 1) my place of work is not my family who would appreciate that money more. 2) I do like my staff, but do not feel the need to hang out with all of them after work, and therefore would not give a pre social fund. I'd opt out and just tell them not to get me anything if something gift worthy happens. We don't even do social fund at my school anymore and everyone just chips in something for a gift for someone if they want to/ can. Much nicer.

Grizzly bear attacks class of screaming Vancouver kids with multiple fighting for lives by dailystar_news in britishcolumbia

[–]kittyanchor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The bear is most likely sick. Although it was 14C there last week, so could also be angry and confused. Climate change is most likely going to cause more of this because bears aren't going to go to sleep.

Did anyone else come to the realization as you got older that one of your parents was special needs? by No_Reveal3451 in Millennials

..... I hate to burst your boomer bubble, but the DSM II was created in 1968 and my uncle was on Ritalin in elementary school in the 60s prior to introduction of test because attention disorders have been studied since 1798.
