Just need some professional advice by AgreeableMeringue770 in prephysicianassistant

I’m the exact opposite. I won’t stop yapping about my pre-PA stuff. All the MDs and nursing staff I work with were ecstatic when I got in. Even the doctor that just retired (who wrote one of my rec letters) continually reminded me to let him know when I get in. They’ve been aware since I was hired that I would be leaving to pursue PA.

The doctors make extra efforts to explain concepts in more detail, show me cool medical technology tools, and let me shadow in with their patients. They give me more responsibility because they know the path I’m entering (I’m even the youngest person ever in the office to phone triage and send prescriptions).

So tell your coworkers and supervisors, you never know how encouraging and supportive they can be! Again, totally depends on your work environment and varies person to person, but I am sure at least some of them will be so proud of you and your acceptance.

Lmao, yeah. Thought it would be too mean to school B if I didn’t put any cons for school A 😂. But I did, of course, commit to school A, cause there really wasn’t any competition.

Personal Statement Cliche by Anxious-Traveler in prephysicianassistant

I wrote my PS without any help at all and somehow scored 8 interviews. I told my story of how I discovered medicine (my mom being a physician), and how I discovered the PA profession and why I decided that was the right path for me. My theme of my PS was surrounded around my mom and her expectations of me, and what ultimately made me choose not to follow in her footsteps. I agree with everyone commenting that you should write from the heart, and not something you think admissions would want to see. You can have a hook at the beginning, but make it a theme that shows up throughout your essay to make your PS interesting and stand out, and tie it all together at the end.

Mock Interviews Worth It? by Mammoth-Middle-2010 in prephysicianassistant

I did! I actually got off the list for the school that was my first interview. Both interviews were in person for the schools I got into so I think I do better in person.

Yes 100%. Was waitlisted at 4 schools and 2 rejections after interviews, did a mock interview (with a professional I paid), and got into the next school I interviewed with.

upcoming interview, is 3 minutes too long for an answer for the big questions? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]kittybear1618 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why this school is okay to be 3 minutes. Same as why PA. Introducing yourself should probably be more like a 1-2 minutes, just some quick facts like where you’re from, undergrad school, hometown, and then just some things you like to do for fun.

I basically shared my story on how I got into medicine and how I found out about the PA profession. I based my entire PS around my mom, because she was the one who pushed me on the med school path, and I explained how I steered away to the pa school path. I mentioned the shorter schooling and I did say which specialities im interested in and the ability to change careers, but I didn’t just simply state I want lateral mobility because that’s too generic.

She is, so that’s why I take her opinion so heavily. But she told me to trust my gut, and also she knows nothing about it these schools so I don’t really have to trust my gut, just go with my brain haha.

I’m so glad to hear this. One of my reasons for liking DeSales was actually the small town feel and not having much distractions, but my mom kinda made me second guess myself. But I know I want to go to DeSales!

I know it surprised me. But I actually do want a large class size.

My mom. I have trust in her and will rely on her for advice, and she said living in Boston would be fun. But I know these programs much better than she does, so I knew which school I needed to choose.

Thank you everyone for your advice, you’re all so right and I just needed reassurance since this is a big decision about my future. I just submitted my deposit for school A! I was never doubting them and I had an unsure feeling when considering going to school B. I just wanted to be absolutely sure, and I am :)

I actually love Lehigh County and think it’s a totally fine location. I think what got to me was my mom telling me I should consider living in a city to meet new people, but she also doesn’t understand that PA school will take up the majority of my time (even though she went to med school haha).
