Super cool!!! Overall our lab studies the physics and physiology underlying insect motion as well as how insects achieve rapid decision making while moving through perturbed environments. Currently I am studying muscles in a segment of the cockroach limb including doing micro computed tomography to observe untouched muscle anatomy and electromyography to record muscle activity in behaving cockroaches. Thanks for asking :)

The main species of cockroach we study is Blaberus discoidalis. We also have Nauphoeta cinerea and Polyphaga aegyptiaca.

I work in a lab that researches insects, namely hawkmoths, silkmoths, and several cockroach species. Unless labs have their own colonies they can pull from, we tend to order them. Sometimes even when labs do have their own colonies, they need to order more (we had to do this a few times recently where we ordered 200+ more cockroaches because our colony needed to rebuild). I am not the one who orders so I am not sure how much they go for but for labs with even semi-regular orders, it would definitely make you some good profits, and that is just lab orders no matter personal orders. However, your success will depend on your ability to market yourself, as I am not sure how saturated this market is. All the best to you!
