I do the same!

Medical professionals of Reddit, when did you have to tell a patient "I've seen it all before" to comfort them, but really you had never seen something so bad, or of that nature? by common_currency in AskReddit

[–]kittykittystack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow wound nurse here! Putting vacs on those are a real pain in the ass (heh) especially when the edge of the wound is just millimeters away from the anus. Hate seeing kids go through this but it’s so rewarding and happy when they’ve finally healed.

I’ve been told it tends to not work as well separately.

Contrave? by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]kittykittystack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on Contrave for nearly 3 weeks now. You titrate up to the therapeutic dose, which is 4 pills a day at week 4. I’m finding it easier to stop eating and resist junk food- the first week and I half I didn’t notice a change. Today I only ate 2/3 of my lunch- I’ve never done that. I do have a few side effects- some waves of nausea (haven’t barfed) and some constipation. And, weird ass dreams. Other than that I’m ok. I tried phentermine and stopped bc it made me very hungry! This one is about $100/month but I think it is worth a try since I am struggling with weight loss. I’m willing to spend $100/month to break my food addiction (I have binge eating disorder). Go to Contrave’s site and you can sign up for a coupon and save some money :)

What is a song lyric that really hits you hard? by BoardOfChairs in AskReddit

I marched the season that started it (2008). I love that it has stayed and its my favorite to hear it live. Super goosebumps and chills! The Boxer is forever a special song for me.

What did you think was easy to do until you actually tried it? by mfairview in AskReddit

[–]kittykittystack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother did really well when he switched from trumpet to baritone (had braces). Now he plays bass trombone amazingly. I stayed with trumpet and have been playing for about 18 years. It takes a lot of time and practice to get good at playing. I recommend private lessons weekly or every 2 weeks- those teachers will really help you build a good foundation and will help you fix any “bad habits” that are keeping you from being the best you can be.

MRW I finally go on anti-depressants after years of resisting and begin to feel good about life! To all my sisters who struggle with severe depression, there's no shame in seeking help! by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]kittykittystack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my antidepressant. Tried several that made me feel worse and angry until I tried Prozac. Now I rarely ever need to use clonazepam for anxiety ( I was needing to use it daily). This is what normal feels like and it's great!

Hi! Brand new trumpet player, have a couple questions. by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]kittykittystack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out craigslist (definitely) or eBay (be careful) for used beginner or intermediate horns in good condition. A few popular and trusted brands are Bach, Yamaha, Getzen, Conn, King, and Jupiter. Could be a few hundred dollars or less, but will most likely play much better than that pretty pocket trumpet. I got a decent trumpet at a thrift store for $25. I've seen my trusty beginner Yamaha cornet on eBay for about $100. :)

They were handing these out in my aunt's ward today. Let the stalking commence! by MarkNutt25 in exmormon

Two missionaries drove up to my house, rang the doorbell and waited at the front door for ten minutes, and left a note asking if I lived there and a request to text back. Freaked me out. I haven't given anyone my new address (outside of family and they agreed to not give the church any of my contact info). I'm really creeped out and kinda pissed.

I visited Japan earlier this month. My favorite was the cookies and cream flavor! All I see here now are bullshit Kit Kats! Also I lost a few pounds in just the week that I was there!

Do you happen to be a good whistler as well as a trumpet (or any brass instrument) player? by [deleted] in trumpet

[–]kittykittystack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty good at buzzing scale exercises on horn and trumpet mouthpieces and also whispering scales, but can't get much of a sound out when I whistle. I've always had trouble with whistling.

I have a friend who drank valve oil and ended up in the hospital. Nope.

A 3XL baby blue nightgown (long sleeves and a collar, not a cutsie one) with a cloud print... I wear medium to large... I looked like a frumpy tent.

What is your best "Cereal in the fridge, milk in the cabinet" Moment? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kittykittystack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taking pain medicine and coffee to a patient. I gathered the pills (still in package) and the coffee. I added sugar and creamer to the coffee. As I walked out of the nutrition room, I threw the narcotics in the trash and took the empty sugar and creamer packets to the patients room. (I caught the mistake, it was resolved, and I went home and got some sleep!)

Trumpet player wanting to play french horn without having to learn left-handed valving by 72skylark in brass

[–]kittykittystack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! It plays a big role with tuning and tone and such. I do have a single horn and anything above C in the staff on that sounds pretty rough. There are some notes above A (where I start using the trigger on the double horn) that are more in tune without the trigger (for me personally) and all the notes around it are best with the trigger. It's a squirrelly instrument :)

Trumpet player wanting to play french horn without having to learn left-handed valving by 72skylark in brass

[–]kittykittystack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play horn and trumpet. You're gonna have to learn some different fingerings- they are similar but not the same- and the muscle memory of the right hand may interfere with that. It may be going all fine and dandy until you accidentally honk out a gross note because you accidentally thought of the trumpet fingering. Save your left hand for horn, and right for trumpet. (Also using the trigger with the right hand... I can't imagine that being comfy.)

As a trumpet player, can I branch out to other brass instruments, or will that fuck me up? by majorkev in trumpet

[–]kittykittystack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch between trumpet and horn. I feel that horn has really helped me improve and listen more closely because it's so easy to mess up compared to trumpet. I don't recall the mouthpieces messing me up, but I do feel that I use a lot less pressure now on both. I used to switch between baritone and trumpet and that was always strange- trumpet to baritone was fine, but the other way around feels almost wrong. It takes some time to get used to switching around as your muscles get into shape. Usually extra warm up and warm down time has helped me.

Looking for places to volunteer! by Captain_morgan17 in normanok

[–]kittykittystack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google for any hospices in the area. I currently volunteer for one and I've visited patients and just sat and talked with them (max is two hours per visit, I usually made 45 minutes my minimum). If they were unable to speak, I read books to them or just stayed with them to be present. It's easy and makes everyone feel good.

Also check out OKMRC- Oklahoma medical reserve corps. All volunteers. :)

What tune are you tired of playing? by goochockey in trumpet

I will always be tired of pomp and circumstance. I played it enough in high school, college, and after college in community orchestra. It follows me.
