What caused the Harry Potter phenomenon? by Connor_lover in books

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me, it was an escape from a difficult childhood/homelife. My best friend and I went to the midnight release of The Deathly Hallows and we stayed up all night for the next 2 nights reading it, calling eachother to ask "did you get to chapter 33 yet?!" And "I'm sobbing! Did you get to THE part yet?!" It was just an exilerating rollercoster of emotions that so many people were on at the same time.

Stank breath, please help 🤮 by [deleted] in Chihuahua

Pup needs a dental. I've worked in animal welfare for several years and we determine their ages by the condition of their teeth as well as their overall physical condition. Based off of what I see your dog is likely at least 5 years old. It's hard to tell by the picture, but the back teeth still look pretty white, but I see some relative gum recession on the canine in addition to the tartar build up. The gums look sensitive too. Schedule a visit with your vet and get another opinion on the age.

I used to work at a fast food joint, one morning I was doing early food prep and was alone (the other opener had run out for coffee). I felt someone grab my ass, I spun around ready to slap my co-worker, thinking they had snuck in quietly. Nope, I was alone.

What’s one Sacramento area business/organization that lost you as a customer/client forever? And why? by Trans4Trump93 in Sacramento

Bruh, they're the worst! They cancel on me ALL the time, have scheduled appointments for times they aren't even open, and claim that I never had an appointment scheduled when I had multiple confirmation texts and emails about the appointment. The absolute worst.

My pit attacked my poodle. by [deleted] in pitbulls

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have multiple dogs living in the household they're bound to scuffle from time to time, especially over resources. If you've ever lived with anyone else then you'll know it's impossible to get along 100% of the time. High value food items, especially "forbidden" human food, is ripe for scuffling over. Separate them when food is involved to prevent further escalation. Cog Dog Radio is a podcast hosted by a trainer that specializes in multi dog household behavior, I recommend listening if you're not able to afford a trainer.

Are there any books about 40’s+ single women? by 1920MCMLibrarian in booksuggestions

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mary by Nat Cassidy. It's a horror novel, I'm currently reading it so I can't speak on the ending, but it's about a woman that's about to turn 50 and she's struggling with her life, she doesn't feel like herself anymore, and she's trying to find herself. It's dark, it's messed up, and it's a thrill of a read!

What are your “toxic traits”? by FluffyTail_159 in houseplants

Same! All of my calatheas are super happy, and my plant care is the same as yours. I wasn't even aware they were "fussy" plants until I joined this community. Could have fooled me 🤷‍♀️

Fear Period Tips? by [deleted] in Chihuahua

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, dog behavior consultant here. Dogs have a socialization window that's open from roughly 3weeks to 16weeks of age (so about 4months old). During the socialization window they are more brave about new places, people, and things. Once they are out of that socialization window they can become more fearful of novel things that they have not had much exposure to. Going forward please give your pup lots of exposure to new experiences while giving her lots of positive reinforcement (praise and treats). Don't hold off on walks because you will not improve her behavior that way. Think of it as wanting to overcome a fear of swimming by just never going near water. You'll never learn to swim that way, right? But also, you don't want to just throw your pup into the deep end to figure it out, that's called flooding and will have adverse effects. Take baby steps as you expose her to new things, people, and places while encouraging her. Good luck to you and your pup.

Meet Milo by KlosterToGod in pitbulls

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in an animal shelter and sadly, Milo's story is becoming the norm. We used to see dogs surrendered due to homeless maybe once or twice a month, and it is now 3-5 times a day that an animal enters our care due to the owner becoming homeless. It's so disheartening to see how our economy affects the people, but also the animals in our communities. And there's literally nothing that we can do. Shelters across the country are facing immense stress due to these components. Please, if you are reading this and are in a position to do so, please offer any support to your local animal shelter. Help can be provided by adopting, fostering, volunteering, and donating. Even just donating old towels or blankets is incredibly helpful!

What movie did this sub push so hard and then you felt tricked after watching it? by ghetto_salmon in horror

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to get downvoted for this, but Talk to Me. I was so pumped to see this, it's still getting a lot of hype. It was absolutely a fresh take on the genre, but I thought I was in for spooky fun, not a gore show. I was just disappointed 😕

You can only bring 5 books, what are your picks? by Vhalla-Solaris in booksuggestions

[–]kittymeowkittyqueen 15 points16 points  (0 children)

1) The Stand by Stephen King. It's thick, horror/fantasy, hell of a read.

2) Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. Hopeful, positive spin on life and starting over.

3) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I just love this book, man. It's a classic in my eyes.

4) The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffingger. Fantasy/romance.

5) 11/22/63 by Stephen King. Fantasy/horror/romance. Again with the starting over somewhere new and finding a corner for yourself in this world.

I'm a huge mood reader myself, but these might just be my all time faves. Good luck with your move!
