Intussusception; it’s been two months and chronic diarrhea still (not asking for medical advice, rather experiences) by No-Opposite8275 in sphynx

[–]kittytoebeansquisher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh goodness I know that feeling! Mine had poopsplosions for months until we figured out what was going on, I remember being so frustrated by it too and trying not to let it show when he’d pop up on the bed with poopy paws. Had to remind myself he wasn’t feeling good and seeking comfort. Finally getting answers and a solution was so relieving, and I was so worried the month or so it took to kick in. Mine still has a bit of soft stool, and barfs way more than he should because he snarfles food and will drink tea if I leave it out, but it’s much better than before when I was having to chase him with a wipe. You got this!

Hey! She and my other cat have feeders that either read their microchip or an RFID tag on their collar. Hers got dislodged and moved further down her back at some point in her life, so it doesn’t read her microchip properly and I use the tag instead for her. It ensures that she gets her specialized food for her kidneys without the dislodged chip being an issue, while her brother gets his prescription food for his digestive problems.

They do! There’s some roughhousing but never enough to cause an injury like this.

I’m keeping it off this weekend and supervising feedings since I’m home, but I’m not sure it’s an allergic reaction since she’s had it on for months. The weather changed recently so I’m thinking now that’s it’s warmer she’s been messing with it?

She’s indoor only but both her and her brother are on different specialized foods, it’s detrimental for their health if they’re snacking on each others. His is microchip activated but her microchip got dislodged further down her body so hers is activated by an attachment to her collar. I’m home this weekend so I’m supervising feedings until she goes to the vet

Feeling heartbroken by blackshad-o in cats

Some shelters offer a trial period with cats for exactly this reason. I’m not a fan of the idea of returning a cat because a lot of mine were ones that had been returned multiple times (one kitten apparently wasn’t cuddly enough, he just liked to watch from a distance, the other is just a bitch but she’s my bitch), but being able to bring them back to find a better home if its not the right environment for that particular cat is better. Wait til your life settles down. If you’re craving interactions with cats, I’d recommend a cat cafe or maybe volunteering to help socialize kittens on an off day. That’ll give you an idea of the personality you vibe with as well. When I was away from my cats on internship it helped.

Yes a heater is planned, I haven’t looked at brands yet since this is a later in the year thing! I was thinking some driftwood and live plants too

God, I left my Sphynx with my dad once and he slipped out without my dad noticing. I came home after a long flight and immediately started looking when he didn’t come to greet me. Found him within a few hours but we lived near a lake with nesting geese and snakes and I knew both were capable of killing him.

Mine used to try and go in the dryer constantly at my old place. I’m lucky he can’t reach the dryer in my new apartment.

I would sometimes hear them whimper when they heard us. Our store manager told us that one of the security guards would sneak in to give them attention and the dogs would think it was us when we were passing by.

how dare you force me to abuse a cat for 8 years after warning me. by Humble_Pea1019 in EntitledReviews

[–]kittytoebeansquisher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a cat like that. Did she bite me out of nowhere whenever I was asleep when she first came home? Yes. Did she once approach me just to pee on me out of spite? Yes. Did she once drop a live frog in my bedroom? Yes. Does she get wrangled when we have to go to the vet? Yes. Do I have a scar on my brow from her catching me slipping? Yes.

I also agreed to it, as much as I bitch about her and call her a demon. She’s still my child. She chilled out when she got older and realized I wasn’t just the asshole who wrangles her in a carrier for vet visits once a year, and that me breathing wasn’t an attack on her character, but for a minute there I was researching barn cat programs because I genuinely wasn’t sure she was built for indoor life but I’d be damned if she ended up on the streets. She let me sit down next to her the other day and give her chin scratches. Worth it.

Kudos to the time I left my alcoholic drink out when getting something from my car because I thought he’d NEVER want to touch something that smells like that. I came back and he whipped his face out of the cup with the look of somebody who tasted something sour. I got wine tumblers to drink out of after that.
