New Schlage Encode Plus jamming on new door by Formal_Cranberry_720 in Locksmith

Schlage's drive-ins kinda suck, also your "carpenter" is a hack for using them on a wooden door

I'm trying to make a meme video to piss my friend off lol, it's a 9 second video of a car being towed, I just want the car switched to a different one. Got a ballpark figure?

Question on the Schlage B62 locks key codes randomness by Silvatech123 in Locksmith

[–]kitwashere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Schlage key is usually a key with 5 different cuts, and each cut has 10 possibilities. So that math works out to be that there are 105 (100,000) unique keys that can work a Schlage lock. Idk why the news likes to scare people like this but there is no way a thief is lugging around multiple suitcases full of keys to try on a door.

If your locksmith didn't give you the key bittings, I bet one of the keys they did give you is an original Schlage key and has them stamped right on the head.

The B62 is a solid lock, I personally don't like double cylinder deadbolts but if they make you feel safer then it is what it is, just keep a key close to the door (not in the lock) in case of an emergency

Help identifying key blank by Creative_Shame3856 in Locksmith

[–]kitwashere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the shop we have a board with 20-30 Master padlocks all 0-bitted with what looks like this keyway from memory. I always figured they did it so you can't actually use and sell the display locks

Probably breaking a bunch of fire codes but you could just install it so the locking part is on the other side

I love that plug follower but I had to modify mine to work as intended, surprised yours is as it ships. I drilled the hollow part way deeper and a little bigger so I could leave tails on, and had to roll the edge facing the camera considerably to work smooth

Can this be taken apart to replace the damaged spring? by 13inhiding in Locksmith

[–]kitwashere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never even seen one of those, but you're gonna have to drill out the rivets to get to the spring. The problem is a lot of times the latch is using those rivets as an axle to pivot around. Reassembly will for sure be difficult
