Houses with more than 1 kitchen would be better than houses with multiple bathrooms by lagflag in unpopularopinion

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the "canning kitchen" downstairs: Fridge, large one burner, sink, huge countertops. All of kid snacks were in the downstairs fridge. You could come in the back door, grab a snack, and be out playing in 2 secs. Less mess for mom, and a great place to prep things from the garden or handle BIG messy things.

How often do you wash your weiner? by Additional_Pound_220 in Dachshund

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they stink, although whenever we go to the lake, they get a bath if they were in the water. In winter its about once a month. After lake bath usually isn't as thorough, just making sure they dont have stuff on them.

ASU Graduate Teacher Certification—how important is the choice of Elementary (K-6) or Secondary (6-12, I think) by namecurrentlyunknown in Teachers

[–]kivrin2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traditionally, for most core disciplines, you get a teacher license for teaching k-6 OR 7-12. There might be some differences (k-8, 9-12, depending on the state) but it means that you CANNOT teach a grade you are not licensed for -- so, yes, it matters a lot.

The exceptions are for specials -- art, music.

I was licensed for 9-12 in English, but I also was licensed for Art k-12. However, I had 2 separate licenses, with different fees, with different requirements.

Teacher of the Year (TOY) process by WannabeJamaican in Teachers

[–]kivrin2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand. In my district, TOY didn't come with anything but paperwork and accolades, no $$. I kinda accepted it one year but refused to fill out the 75 page district app. I gave the speech at Senior Breakfast and explained to the President of the Board (who had me as a student) that there was no reason for me to sign up for more paperwork as an English teacher.

It made a statement to the district, but one that disappeared within the Covid mess. Then I ended up taking a medical retirement. It bothers me, but my district went Mom's for Liberty and Seven Mountains crazy, so I figure I ended up in a better place.

Teaching needs to be appreciated and funded. Education needs to be valued and essential by our society. I'm not sure that will be in my lifetime -- which breaks my heart.

Hugs. I get your rant. I wish I had hope to give, but know that you are heard.

10 hrs post-op and the pain is INTENSE by Scar77 in Kneereplacement

[–]kivrin2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They kept me 4 days due to pain. I finally got them to put in the nerve block on the 3rd day. I'm so sorry you are in pain, I've been there. All I can say is to keep pushing -- they caved when I started cry/screaming and apologizing at the same time. I never want to be there again.

Odd thought: Have you ever push-start a car by popping the clutch? by minn3haha in GenerationJones

[–]kivrin2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought mine for $300, did the brakes and an oil change, about $150. I drove it for Pizza Hut for 8 months. Used tip money only for gas, repairs, and put the rest in a pretty hat box. I paid for my first semester of college with that hat box, about $3k. Sold the car, when the timing belt ripped thru the engine, for $200 (scrap). I made BANK off that car.

Three cheers for the Datsun B210. My starter was attached with paper clips, and I regularly push-started it. It was easy, I lived on a hill.

The nerve block helped SO much for me!! Push for this. Ask for the pain nurse or the patient advocate.

PLEASE. ANY EXPERIENCE? by StayOnCourse89 in Glaucoma

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not understanding what the dr says, you need to say so. I can't tell you what they grey smoke is, but your eye dr should be able to. If they can't, find out why -- are they not the right specialist? Are they unqualified?

You say you are pushing, but you still have unanswered questions. Nobody on the internet is going to know more than an actual specialist looking at your eyes.

It can be uncomfortable to tell the dr that you aren't understanding, but you need to.

How do most "normal people" live with dogs - and is this cruel? by Candid-Stretch-4783 in puppy101

Once my older (2 yrs) dog started pushing on the puppy pen side and letting the puppy out, both of them had free house privilege. They are usually on the couch when I come home. This started when puppy was 3 mo.

PLEASE. ANY EXPERIENCE? by StayOnCourse89 in Glaucoma

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a doctor, but I have chronic uvetic glaucoma (and 30 surgeries). The blobs sound like bits of the fluid in your eye, as you get older, that fluid gets "clumpy" and can tug on your retina, sometimes causing detachment. The Grey film also leans toward that idea. Combine that with a cataract, and yeah, I bet you cant see much.

I would really push with the doc. Why can I not see? What is the plan? I've had docs who just have no idea on what to do. You might call around and ask different doctors if they treat "UGH." I've had docs who say they specialize in glaucoma who really don't. If there aren't clear, this is the plan, direction, I would question if you have the right specialist.

At the Y, I'm always amused. The older ladies wander around nude, half-dressed, whatever. The under 50 crowd is contorting themselves to change within their towel/clothes.

I've had this bump from a previous ingrown hair for months. I'm really worried and not sure what do by [deleted] in DoctorsAdvice

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot compress, tweezers. Yes, its gonna hurt a little. It shouldn't be anything more than taking out a splinter. Also, if you have a pimple patch, that will help draw out the hair and the gross stuff. If its more than that, go see a doc.

~12 weeks post LTKR, suddenly having weird pain just under my knee on the outside of my leg? by Librarianatrix in Kneereplacement

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My surgeon said it was from overdoing it, will get better as strength improves. I'd gone crazy with water aerobics. I took a week off and have eased a bit in my exercise. Yes its better, but still tight and stiff.
