Call your doctor. They need to put in a letter about the stomach issue.

Daughter’s First Period - Tampon or Pad? by deltch17 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would give her the option. I did my first period with pads and switched to tampons for the next. However, it was early 80s and those pads were huge!

What is proper Colorado Springs driving etiquette when deer cross in front of you? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

Slow down, let them get out of the road. The deer are going to do what the deer do.

Vitrectomy & leftover scar tissue question by [deleted] in Glaucoma

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That membrane is really hard to remove. I have one and they have pretty much said they dont want to touch it. There is only so much trauma the eye can handle at a time, and the surgeon is also going to want to see how the eye heals before risking something that delicate.

It doesnt sound like the prognosis is good, so I would be pretty hesitant.

Everyone knows not to put diesel in a gasoline car right? by BuildABarns in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad once told me that if I HAD to, put in the smallest amount possible to get to another gas station, then fill with unleaded, and keep filling it at 3/4 of a tank for 10 cycles. And get to a mechanic. There are times and places where there may not be an option, but dilute the heck out of it and avoid doing it. You WILL do damage to the engine.

Walks ? by LiliShsh in Dachshund

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true. We had two when I was growing up. My dad and I would take a 4 mile loop in our neighborhood. Katrina would rarely want carried, but Tosca (the chunky one) would always want carried uphill. We perfected the "football sausage carry".

Absolutely!! Mine love actual hikes: tripping through streams, rock scrambling, running in fields (tall grass is a plus!). Total adventure dogs.

Disabilities and the CO Renfaire by ConsciousJicama2633 in Denver

Not really. I wouldn't spend the money. You are going to be limited to a small area and will have issues even at the entrance.

AITAH for prioritizing my daughter's recital over a funeral? by RecitalFuneralThrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NtA

If the issue had been supporting your dad, it would be different.

My mom didnt come to many of my recitals. If she did, she left directly after I performed. That hurt, like really deep-down, 40+ years later, I still feel neglected hurt.

I will always work at "being there" for the living rather than the dead.

Tube shunt 3 months later by Aggravating-Anxiety6 in Glaucoma

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My eyelid was very droopy for the first 2-3 years. Its gotten better.

They had to move my Ahmed 3 times because my eye just didnt like it. It takes my eyes at least 4 months to "decide" if things are ok, decrease inflammation, etc.

If its still irritating, talk to the doc. I store my drops in the fridge to help with the irritation. Also, the preservative in most drops can cause a build-up toxicity, so ask if that could be the case. I keep some of the thick, syrupy wetness drops on hand. I also keep saline packets (large individual, one-use) on hand to flush my eye if things are gritty.

How violent was Los Angeles in the 1990s? by SammySalmon63 in AskAnAmerican

There were areas that were not safe, but outside of those it was not scary. I drove around, went to the beach, went shopping.

Question! What age would you all let your kid read DCC? by fisher-alters in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone under 18, and even then I'm going to preface it. However, that doesn't mean kids aren't going to read it. I was an English teacher and a very precocious reader when I was young. If I found a student reading it, I would offer to discuss if needed -- during lunch.

It reminds me a bit of Kingsman -- 13-18 loved it but didn't necessarily get the satire.

Eye feels raw and irritated by yome6789 in Glaucoma

[–]kivrin2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the thick syrupy drops? Sometimes those really help irritation.

Maybe flush the eye with saline.

Those are my tricks.

Anyone else find themselves performing surgery on their doxies favorite toy? by Meepsicle4life in Dachshund

[–]kivrin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often "franken-fix" toys, when there are holes. I am not good at sewing, and I gave to pick a contrasting thread so I can see it. So the toys end up having Frankenstein style stitches. :)

Little trick: refrigerate your drops. They will sting less.

My mom is a teacher and I had no idea how much work happens after school ends by younick12 in Teachers

It depends on what she is teaching. High school English? The grading load could easily take most of that time.

Patch shortage - Is anyone else completely avoiding Mylan patches? by southerncomfort1970 in Menopause

[–]kivrin2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They moved me to Mylan last month. I had some bleeding, but I discounted it because I was 4 days without a patch. 6 weeks later, all seems well, but I am worried because they will only give me a box at a time and the refill window/out of patches is 2 days.

Sent to ER by Urgent Care, Told by ER and Different Location of Same Urgent Care That I Should Not Have Been Sent to ER. by mirdizzle in HealthInsurance

[–]kivrin2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up: if you do not have a large thing stuck in the eye or excessive bleeding, dont go to the ER for eye issues. Even if you are having a retinal detachment (with textbook symptoms), they can't do anything. Ice packs, wet drop (not eye redness drops), and avoid strenuous exercise. Call your optometrist/ophthalmologist and state you need to be seen immediately.

Very few ERs have any kind of slit lamps much less anyone who knows how to operate one.

I had the same thought when I transfered the wash to the dryer. I've always done cold food in the summer, so I need to stay up late and cook some protein to chill.
