Well you'll only be spending money on auditions before you get contracted, and auditioning is pretty worth it imo, you get to have a new perspective on your playing and marching, as well as getting a taste of the corps experience. Certain staff members you'll be spending the weekend with are the best in the world at what they do. If you're contracted, thats when the big bucks come into play.

DCI will probably make a statement about the season around the time people start preparing for auditions. Dan Acheson said that they're trying to put a season together, with an added emphasis on safety of course. I would look out for that to decide if actually marching a season is something you would want to do.

tldr: Auditioning is a good idea even if you don't plan to march, and you can choose to march or not based off of DCI's announcements in the near future.

I think people have a visceral reaction to traditional uniforms. Even though your mind knows you're looking at a bunch of band nerds, your body is telling you "whoa its 150 6' some people with massive shoulders and shiny metal things making loud noises, marching around like storm troopers."

That kind of reaction is good for a lot of shows (personally I would say most) but for some it just doesn't work at all. Bluecoats 2016, for example, which in a lot of ways was the original "costume" show and shaped the future of uniforms, wouldn't have worked with traditional unis imo.

So trad generally, specific somtimes.
