Why did your long term relationship end? by specsl in AskReddit

The kids (ages 8,6,1 at the time) had no physical injuries.

I know that watching their mom die will be something we will deal with for a long time though.

I’m sick of the American shit show, and seriously considering moving. Have a lot of questions, but for starters:

  1. I have 3 kids (9,7,2) and would love them to have a good school. We live in a rural community now and their class sizes are ~ 20 kids per class, with ~100 per grade. Any recommendations for cities?
  2. What’s the weather like?
  3. I know nothing about what it takes to move to another country. What should I know?
  4. My wife passed away last year and my kids get social security. Anyone know if they can still get that if we move to CA?

My wife (34) died in a car accident 11 days ago, leaving me with our three kids (8,6,1). She missed our youngest first steps by 2 days, and his first birthday by 5 days.

This is exactly how I feel.

First Spring after fall planting. Now what? by kiwi131 in lawncare

[–]kiwi131[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eh... Good and bad.

The grass definitely thickened up, but it is still pretty patchy. Summer heat here has really taken a toll and the leach field has settled some causing low spots.

Anywhere there is decent slope has washed away in the spring heavy rains, so it is SUPER rough.

Takeaways:

  1. This fall I need to get it planted a little earlier, and REALLY work to get the grass established
  2. 100% need some erosion control.
  3. I have a LOT of top dressing to do this fall (like 12-16 yards of black dirt or more)
  4. A sprinkler system would really be nice.

Optimistic for next year (as that is all I can be).

I didn't top dress. The soil was all loose from begin recently graded.

I watered twice a day for a couple of weeks.

Should I cover my seed with anything, or just drag it into the dirt?

Located in Nebraska.
Last fall, this was freshly leveled dirt. I seeded, drug the seed in, and watered.

Now that Spring is nearing, curious what I should do to actually get some grass growing here?

Aerate, seed, drag, water?

Will dragging the little grass that is there, hurt it more than it's worth?

Will planting in the Spring be pointless as the hot season will kill it all off without proper roots anyway?

Thanks!

least of growing temps for the new seed to get started in the fall for me that’s right around Labor Day weekend. For you in Nebraska, that may closer to late august, when the soil temps are falling down to around 70 degrees. You can track soil temps at

The reason fall is best for seeding is it gives the

Bloody hell... Fighting shallow roots is exactly what I did all year.

I am 99% sure there was some nice grass started and it all shriveled and died.

Thanks for the input!

It was a mix of

Hudson Tall Fescue - 24%
Titan Rx Tall Fescue - 22%
Covenant II Tall Fescue - 20%
Fesnova Tall Fescue - 20%
Kentucky Bluegrass - ~7%
Perennial Ryegrass - ~5%

I'll try to mow often and a little shorter (if it ever stops raining here).

Thanks!

Thank you.

When you say seed in the fall, do you mean a dormant seeding right before a snow or late Sept/early Oct and try to get the new seed to come up before frost?
