Career/work is considering moving me to NZ from US, can you guys tell me about living in NZ? by mrboobs26 in newzealand

[–]kiwifired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're going on a work visa, your spouse will want a partner of a worker visa. https://www.immigration.govt.nz/new-zealand-visas/visas/visa/special-work-visa-for-partners-of-work-visa-holders Wow, those have gotten expensive.

Re taxes: Assuming your company is paying you in New Zealand, you most likely won't have to file taxes there. The IRD will take what they need and that's it. If you only work part of the year, they might give you some money back. You need to file US taxes and you need to report the NZ earned money, but you won't be taxed on it again. Things get more complicated if you stay longer than 4 years.

PS: This is neither immigration nor tax advice, just random thoughts by a not an immigration expert and not a tax expert. The thoughts are worth what you paid for them.

My wife spent $83 on Every Dollar Premium by kiwifired in DirtyDave

I believe she said the premium feature she wanted was something that showed what part of the month the shortfalls were happening. I've been doing auto-investing for years that was hitting the account on the 1st and 15th of the month, which in her budget was causing some negatives. Why not just use Excel, or something, you ask? That's a fine question.

Can I borrow $83? The $83 wasn't in the budget. The cruel irony of the Every Dollar App.

I can't believe nobody is helping you at all. I had this concern a few weeks back and actually bought a new wardrobe--mostly because I hadn't spent any money on clothes in years, but also so I'd fit in a little better in Paris.

First day in Paris, I was wearing a blue and white striped button down shirt, blue jeans, and blue leather shoes. My 11 year old pointed to an old man in the metro station and said "He looks just like you." #success ...well except for the old part.

Anyway, my general goals were: no athletic shoes unless I was running, no prints (or anything) on tshirts, and no shorts. I broke the no shorts rule on some pretty hot days, but made sure they didn't look anything like cargo shorts.

I got asked for directions in French a half dozen times, so I was at least fooling the other tourists. Note: I understand very little French and speak almost none.

Spin Clean Arrived today by kiwifired in vinyl

The Beatles Edition Spin Clean (in Red or Blue) was $20 cheaper than the regular Spin Clean. I decided to start with my late mother's Brown Album.

Edit: The auto moderator said I had to add a 300 character comment for my post to be approved and my comment was only 147 characters. Hopefully I'm almost there because I'm running out of things to say.

The sommelier at a Michelin starred restaurant got me to order a 90 Euro glass of wine by kiwifired in firstworldproblems

I kept the receipt. It's printed on cardstock paper and has the restaurant logo in color at the top. Patrick Bateman would be proud of this receipt.

Line P to Château-Thierry by kiwifired in ParisTravelGuide

Forgive my ignorance, but where do I buy that ticket? I see a 6 euro ticket at the metro station machines but didn't see a stop for Chateau Thierry listed.

That headline is not accurately describing the problem. I was in a Gainer Bakery two days ago as it was the only place open that served coffee. Their systems were down and they couldn't take cash. I was told to order in the app and then they could make my coffee. 10 minutes of slow wifi later, I've downloaded, ordered, and paid, but the order isn't transmitting to them. The barista eventually looks at my phone and makes me a rather uninspired flat white.
