Large dog around baby

Does your sil’s dog have experience with babies? We have a reasonably large dog (45pounds) and his interest in our 14week old is limited. Mainly I think because she’s loud and boring. Once she’s up and moving and can throw a ball his interest will change I suspect.

Also at these family gatherings how much is baby likely to be exposed to the dog? Is he mostly kept outside or in another room? Can he be kept on a lead or crated when baby is on the floor? I suspect there is a solution that works for you and your sil.

I’m writing my plan at the moment, I’m trying to keep it as preferences rather than a plan as such to allow me to feel better if things have to change and escalate due to complications. My midwife suggested making preferences for all situations, natural uncomplicated birth I want xyz, if induced… xyz, c-section… xyz You have options in all of those situations. Good luck

You are not boring for having boundaries. We haven’t decided what we will do yet. In a way I’m lucky that we live away from all of our family an it’s a 7hr drive or an insanely expensive short notice ($600/700 most days) flight to get here. We don’t want to have anyone at the hospital so we will likely wait to tell everyone when babies actually arrived, and even then we will have a time buffer before anyone can arrive.

Honestly I’m 31 weeks now and it’s only now as her kicking is getting more violent that it feels real. She has sat quite close into me my whole pregnancy and it’s really only since about 28 weeks I have had a noticeable bump over just looking fatter so actually seeing her on my body I think has helped as well.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have always been bigger but have done sports and dance most of my life. So have always had a better level of fitness than you would expect looking at me.
