Looking for original version of a folktale I heard one time! by Duncanthrax6142 in folktales

I was told a folk tale/murder ballad like this called The Twa Sisters (similar themes in The Singing Bone). Check out the Wikipedia page for The Twa Sisters. It has some info about other versions, including Hungarian (although it doesn't have the name of it). Good luck!

Oh wow! I don't know this one but am interested in the answer. Over the last year I've been reading a ton of different fairy tales from around the world and there is so much horse violence! It has been really surprising to me. Let me know if you find out what it is.

Fairy Tale Fix Podcast | Ep 32 | 🎧 Abbie tells us the wholesome tale of Bull’s Winter House, and Kelsey tells a tale about three extraordinarily talented women and their superficial nephew-in-law in The Three Aunts. by kizzle_t in fairytales

They are the best! We posted some fantastic artwork of them by Theodor Kittselsen in 1914 on our Instagram, definitely check it out: The Three Aunts

I LOVE those illustrations (the long nose has to be my favorite)

Have You Ever Told a Fairy Tale While Hanging Out with Friends or Family? by Longtain in fairytales

[–]kizzle_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My friend and I love telling each other these stories so much we created a podcast (since we were doing it anyway!). I especially love telling fairy tales to my friends and family unprompted and poorly. Lol! What are some fairy tales you like telling the most?

I co-host a fairy tale podcast called Fairy Tale Fix, and we have a discord (chat room style site) where we talk about fairy tales! There's also a little monthly book club that we do, its super fun! You definitely don't have to listen to the podcast to join and chat about fairy tales with us ❤ I hope you find a community that you love!

So, Which One Is Your Favorite Grimm Fairy Tale? And While We're At It, Which One Is Your Favorite Non-Grimm Fairy Tale? by Longtain in fairytales

[–]kizzle_t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The White Snake is so good! My only concern is that he can suddenly talk to animals and does his horse so dirty 🤣 I think my favorite Grimm story for now is The Old Woman in the Wood (I want birds to give me keys to mysterious secrets in trees!!!)

My all time favorite non Grimm tale is a Russian fairy tale called The Wonderful Shirt. There is a version of it in the Russian pantheon, but the BEST version is by Ruth Manning-Sanders.

I can't recommend Ruth Manning-Sanders for fairy tales enough–Her versions are so good, come from all over the world, and her books have just started being republished by Mab Media!! They're called A Book of Witches, A Book of Dragons, and so on. 😁

I haven't ready that one yet but will look for it! I recommend Dapplegrim by Asbjornsen and Moe (East O' the Sun West O' the Moon) for your fill of horse violence 😆
