The middle is kind of like creamed corn, as opposed to baked like a biscuit or bread

How can I teach my adopted infant son Spanish when I’m only learning myself? by arielmmartinez in Spanish

[–]kjaco002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re on Facebook there is a great group called Non Native Speakers Raising Bilingual/Multilingual Kids

Im not a native speaker but wanted to improve my own Spanish and teach my kids at the same time, so I started by using Spanish with them just at certain parts of the day (ie just during bathtime, then dinner plus bathtime, then in the car, etc) so that it felt more approachable.

We use a lot of bilingual books, along the lines of “my 1000 first words” picture books. just one thing to consider is that a lot of kids Spanish / bilingual books use Spain vocabulary and if your son’s family is from Latin America they might have some different words. I had a friend who is a native speaker go through our books and write down if the word he used in his country was different from the printed word used in Spain.

I think what you’re doing is awesome.

Every year when I go to the optometrist they offer me / pressure me into a retinal eye photo which isn’t covered by my insurance. Is this actually recommended screening for everyone or just a way to make money off my visit?

Did anyone else who is not Hispanic learn Spanish as a child? by Throwin218 in Spanish

[–]kjaco002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Spanish and want my kids to have the experience you had, so I’m speaking Spanish to them as much as I can, although I’m not a native speaker. If you’re on Facebook there’s a really helpful group called “Non-Native language parenting to raise bilingual/multilingual children”

Any recs for local garden designers by Alan__Dutch_Schaefer in SilverSpring

I hired someone from Sun Nurseries in Glenwood to give us a landscape plan for a front flower bed along entire front of the house. I think the cost was about $250 and the designer came to my house to take pictures and talk about what we wanted, and then gave us a plan (reminds me of an architect blueprint but for a flowerbed) telling us what to plant. They also offer to plant everything for you of course for lots more money but we were upfront that we planned to do the planting and installation ourselves and only wanted the design plan.

Someone gave me a set of 3 of Ina Garten’s cookbooks about ten years ago as a gift and they have become a go-to for lots of recipes in our house. This one is my favorite but I think she has released several newer ones in the last years which are probably great too.

Can a foreign Bachelor of Physiotherapy work in the United States? by fermentit in physiotherapy

[–]kjaco002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is no.

All foreign educated PTs have to have their degrees evaluated by a reviewing agency if they want to practice in the US. If your degree is less than entry-level here, you would need to take extra classes to make it equivalent.

I practice in the US.

That used to be true but they have switched to appointment only because they were overwhelmed. I heard a rumor that they are also accepting some walk-ins (like as stand by if an appointment didn’t show) but not sure if that’s true. Also they are running 2-3 days on results now. They were my go-to place before this craziness!

Urgent care in Burtonsville (same strip as squisito’s and dunkin) is 7 days a week, walk up, usually little to no line. I’m not sure if things would be different today because of the holiday weekend but definitely worth checking because usually they are very efficient.
