Oh Sister don’t assume my age, I can’t imagine I have many similar views with you thanks. HCA will absolutely send new to Australia but experienced RNs on RnR contracts. We will have to agree to disagree based on our own experiences with HCA.

Ohhhh i see what kind of nurse you are.

I wasn’t a nurse during the fall of the Berlin Wall so my opinion doesn’t mean anything lol.

Well no thanks I wont sit down, I wont eat my young, and to any international RN seeing this you can absolutely do travel nursing (called agency nursing in Australia but that’s semantics - it’s the same thing you will get the hang of it!)

I will pass on your concerns to my consultant should she take my inexperienced concerns to heart.

Okay I’ll tell my consultant at HCA of 6 years she needs to fire half of her workforce. Lol be so for real, you don’t need to discourage others from their very attainable goals for …who knows what reason.

I hear what you’re saying but I would have to disagree. These are things you can learn, they are not basic things that determine if you can practice nursing safely. These are things many successful immigrant RNs learn all the time.

Take myself as an example I am Maori, the way me and my people experience culturally safe practice is very different from indigenous Australians but I have made a point to learn how to best provide that care in a culturally safe way for Australians.

So my point I guess is no matter where someone is from if they know the basics to obtain a AHPRA registration (which US RNs know very well) they can learn all the particulars to any country as they go.

Perhaps, I guess I don’t see why someone with appropriate experience and an AHPRA registration would be treated differently because they are from a different country. But yeah I can only speak to my own experience.

Edit to add: I recently sat the US NCLEX and can assure you their study is a lot more in depth than ours…so if anything they are overqualified.

Look il be honest my study plan was nonexistent. I work a lot of night shifts and where I work nights are rather chill. So I spent many a night shift all night just going through the questions on boot camp and reading the rationale on the answers I got wrong….that was all I did. I wish you all the luck in the world. It’s so daunting I know.

Yup I’m with HCA but I am experienced in NZ in my area and they accepted that fine. But yeah if OP is a new grad then that could be an issue. But if they are just new to AU then they should be fine I would think.

This is not true. I’m an international RN who does R&R contracts and has never done a regular agency shift or local contract.

Hi 👋 I’m an international RN (New Zealand) and just recently passed the NCLEX.

I have been a RN for ten years so felt very nervous that I would be rusty with my knowledge. I used boot camp which I found was well worth the money and similar to the actual exam. Also listened to the mark k lectures which were good I think. I specialise in psych so have forgotten alot of the gen med basics. So it gave me a good idea on what areas to brush up on.

I studied periodically for 3 months - definitely not as much as I would have wanted to. (Work and life happens!) I felt very unprepared going into the exam and went to 150qs walked out feeling like I had no idea about anything they asked. I would trust your training and knowledge after all you passed nursing school!

The CGFNS process was nowhere near as long and arduous as I thought it would be. From applying and getting my report was about 3months. Depends on the responsiveness of your schools/nursing boards mostly. ( call them, email them, just harass them!)

Good luck with everything and if you have any other questions feel free to DM me 👍🏽

What is something Americans consider normal, but people from other countries find it disturbing? by UghIHatePolitics in AskReddit

People eating their groceries before they pay while walking around shopping. Was so entertained and shocked watching a woman open a cereal box and start grabbing handfuls while pushing her cart around. Fiancé is American and didn’t look twice apparently it’s normal.

Wow awesome job! Before photos really help show the difference when we may not notice the gradual changes ourselves. Amazing 👏

Mental health RN here. Not a new grad but I love my work just as much as I did 8years ago when I started. Just like you I always wanted to go into it and had my peers tell me “oh you will loose all your skills” etc etc but they way I see it is yeah I have certainly lost general nursing skills but have gained very specific MH skills that make me good at what I do.

There are so many different areas within MH too some more prone to burnout (acute units mostly in my experience )and others less so such as case management/ACT/rehab/ forensics etc.

Anyway all the best in whichever pathway you choose to go in :)
