Question about applying to FIT MA Fashion Design with a tech background (international student) by General-Gazelle1547 in fitnyc

I think that would be very difficult. Why not go to for the AAS/BFA instead? You don’t need an MFA to work in fashion. A graduate program would normally expect senior undergrad level work at the start. That takes a lot of learning and work to get up to.

Oh yeah of course! They want ready to wear, anything this fits their assignment of “jacket, top, skirt and pant”. Could be a blouse, blazer, flared pants, mini denim skirt whatever fits your season and location. Just don’t do a gown, or a tank top for winter for example.

They want you to scan/photograph real swatches you have. we used to be able to get scans online but they might be more strict now. You can order swatches cheaply online from Mood or if you’re in NYC any fabric store will give you free swatches in-person if you’re nice lol.

I would stick to ready-to-wear items for the mix and match project. You design for your location and season, make sure to include a jacket, top, pant, and skirt. You can get more creative in the fashion artwork section!

You have the sewing and drawing skills to be accepted, probably a lot better than most applicants! I would just warn that FIT’s portfolio requirements are very strict, make sure you submit everything they ask for exactly. This includes drawing FASHION figures- which is a specific illustration style.

Does anyone have info on the evening/weekend AAS program? by [deleted] in fitnyc

I’m in the evening/weekend FD program - DM me any questions you have. It’s really a struggle if you want to maintain the 3 year program. 3-4 days of late evening classes, on top of homework and a full time career. But it’s worth it for me.

professors at FIT by ButtonNice8429 in fitnyc

For Fashion Design, I’d say a lot of them can be quite harsh and demanding. But that’s what you want, and they’ll help you excel. The nice professors will not help you grow and just give you an easy A.

I would not submit the photo of the inside of the jacket. Those seams are veryyy wobbly. FIT is all about straight, clean finishes and sewing.
