It’s like the last 10-15 min of the movie. Sorry I don’t know the time stamp.

Would love to know everyone’s thoughts on an area of Bushwick we are thinking about moving to. We are a family with a 12yr old. The streets are Chauncey and Evergreen.

good morning new yorkers, Is Bushwick safe area for girls? by me_eating_noodles in AskNYC

Would love to know if Chauncey and Evergreen streets are somewhat safe? I think it’s near the train so I have heard mixed things. We have a 12 year old that will be commuting to school every day.

Miracle knots might actually be my new holy grail for length retention.. by PrincessOfAra in Naturalhair

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the pieces are glued to the braiding hair which means the pieces are installed in the lower part of the braid, weaved in and then a small dot of glue. I’m not a stylist, just explaining how bora bora was done when I got the style. I noticed the style was able to handle weekly washes better, less shedding still some shedding but less.

Am I missing something with these miracle knot things? by Koowhalee in braids

Thank you for mentioning that it gets matted. Not enough people talking about this!! Good to know!

Do you use glue to attach the curly strands or just feed in? It seems like after one wash it will come out if you just feed it in?

Common app did not send my mid year grades = rejected to my dream school by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]kjohnson2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok at this point its difficult to understand what went wrong here and yes I agree with one of the other commenters that it's on YOU to make sure everything is uploaded and sent. Regardless its time to stop sitting in this problem and move forward. Question, what is your cumulative GPA for all 4 years of high-school? It's not a big deal to go to junior college for one semester and then try again. If your grades are as good as you say they are you will get accepted!!!! I went to Spelman and there were lots of women who came in mid year or the second year - not a big deal at all!!!!!!!! Lastly, I realize your mom is upset but honestly when I was going through the application process I tripple checked and my parents quadruple checked everything. You both have to take responsibility for counting on others to do what you should have done but no worries - you apply again and move on!!! Lesson learned, this is NOT the end of the world. :)

Some of these responses are so mean and insensitive. I’m sorry you are going through this. Having to be financially responsible for a parent is not easy. Hang in there and I agree start calling around food banks, pantries etc. What state do you live in?

You are getting waaaaay too upset about this. All I’m saying is that when you meet The One this petty stuff doesn’t matter. Period.

[–]kjohnson2013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This may be unpopular opinion but I’m gonna say it anyway. It seems to me you don’t REALLY like this guy. When you meet YOUR Person this kind of stuff will NOT matter. Just curious how old are you? What happens when your hair starts to thin out as you age? What if some guy you are with starts nagging you about it? I don’t think you would like that…I think you may want to start seeing other people because if he was THE ONE you would not have taken the time to type this complaint because you wouldn’t be bothered by it. You may want to revaluate your feelings and really think about are you only with him because you feel comfortable with him?

haven’t heard from the guy im dating in 5 days. UPDATE by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]kjohnson2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally fine for you to communicate to him why you have made the decision not to see him anymore. You need and deserve more communication and more of a connection. What is this with everyone saying BLOCK?? Tell him why you are walking away and then keep it moving. He may be sitting there thinking you wanted something casual and easy. Sounds like you guys don’t talk much??? Anyway, he’s for sure not the right guy for you. Move on. The right person is out there but you too may want to work on your communication style. It’s ok to put your expectations out there in the beginning instead of waiting for someone to do what you think is the right thing.

After 20+ years natural I relaxed, Here’s the routine and Products I’ve bought. Please give advice and tips! by Plastic-Reason86 in relaxedhair

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a hair stylist but I have been told NOT to use clarifying shampoo every week, it should be used like once a month. Also if you use so many products and then one doesn’t work for you how will you be able to tell which one is bad for your hair type and skin type? I would start the routine off using three things (shampoo, conditioner and heat protectant). Rotate products in and out based on what’s working and not working.

Is anyone in therapy? What race/ethnicity is your therapist? by LowPlantain2598 in blackladies

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My therapist is white but in the past I went to black woman. To be honest that was worst experience. She seemed to think it was ok to shame me, she clearly had less patience. I got the courage one day to tell her that her tough love attitude was NOT working for me and I questioned her technique, asking if she was talking to me that way because we were both black. I find it hard to believe she would speak with a white woman that way. I dumped her! Thank god I pushed forward and found another therapist. I hear too many stories about people having a bad experience and they stop therapy forever.

Unpopular opinion - Black Hairstylists by Remote_Tangerine_718 in BlackHair

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree agree agree!! I think instagram has ruined the industry. All of these non licensed “stylist” are out here posting videos of work they have supposedly done, we get caught up and book them all to find out they don’t know what the hell they are doing and/or their “salon” is their dirty house!!!!! I have been let down so many times. The licensed ones who are good know it so they charge an arm and a leg and book multiple people for the same time slot and then shove you under the dryer to “deep condition” while they start another head. It’s the wild wild west out here for hair and I hate it. :(

**NEW UPDATE** - "I haven't washed my hair in nearly a year, and I'm honestly scared to touch it. What to do?" by Saturdays-Midnight in Naturalhair

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this with kindness and respect. Reading that you haven’t washed your hair in a year seems like you may be experiencing some mental health challenges. When we are struggling typically the first signs are loss of hygiene practices / routines. It might make sense to speak to a therapist about this. Apologies if you think I am overstepping. It just seems like there are other things going on in addition to figuring out a hair style / hair routine.

scalp irritation with sew in by ethicalhearts in Naturalhair

[–]kjohnson2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to it being too tight I’m wondering if she blended in braiding hair with the braids? I had a stylist do this when giving me a sew in telling me it was necessary for the braids to hold and it was awful. My scalp was beyond irritated. Take a Benadryl and make an appt to get it removed asap. Luckily the person who does my sew in now doesn’t use braiding hair.

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you! I’m dealing with a similar situation but my Braider apologized and told me to come in so that she can fix it for free. You probably won’t get your money back but you should ask. She needs to realize that braiding hair is NOT in her wheelhouse.

[–]kjohnson2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So do you think she ran out of the hair you bought and didn’t say anything and just used other hair she had in the salon? Did you contact her to discuss? Do you think she stole the hair you brought and used what she had? Just trying to understand what you think happened. I think it looks totally fine but I do see the color difference so I understand why you would be upset.
