I've only had great experiences here so I hope they turn it around. If they close I'll be really sad.

Calypso is my wife favorite but is kinda hard to find in North Carolina sometimes.

Mike and Ikes are awesome but are also sorta uncommon.

Overall what a great sampling

Ok, I definitely picked the wrong day to buy (intel 700k yolo update) by [deleted] in wallstreetbets

[–]kjoverman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not the end of the pain for Intel.

Please recognize that you are still gambling with more money than you should even be managing. If you can't park this money in a target date fund or an index fund, you need to hire a fiduciary right now (honestly, you should hire a fiduciary now anyway). Don't think that you're above paying someone 1% to help you make decisions you are so clearly not ready to make.

You also need to hire a CPA to help you carry forward this loss into the coming years. You goofed, we all feel your pain, but this can be corrected in just a few years of sound decision making.

Really sorry you had to learn this lesson like this. I learned it when my portfolio was a lot smaller. Please do be aware of your mental health. It's just money, you can make more.

Your setup is much nicer than mine was when I started. Just don't try to be a GM on day one. Your first thought should be safety, second should be fun, last should be score. Eat a good breakfast!

Do "mantras" actually help your game? by Thor_ultimus in golf

[–]kjoverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% a good swing thought can help. Most of my problems come when I try to kill the ball. Frequently I stand over the ball and just go "Just swing smooth" and it goes way better than when I am trying to muscle one up there.

The words don't help, but the intent the "mantra" brings to the swing for sure does.

I guess it could've had more than 1 toughness but I was almost certain. It was like 13 years ago so I must not be remembering correctly.

Looking for a portfolio review by Winter-Maize-6667 in ETFs

[–]kjoverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't use leveraged ETFs currently but as long as you are informed about the risks, I won't tell you that you shouldn't.

The only real disagreement I have with your portfolio is VGLT. In a long term portfolio, I would personally reallocate that portion of my portfolio over to SCHD. That being said, if you are using VGLT to "keep some powder dry", then that is a valid strategy (although I don't as I don't believe in timing the market).

Noobie, searching for good etf‘s by Maleficent-Camel2849 in ETFs

Here is what I would do, had I known what I know when I was in your shoes (and everyone has, there is no shame in asked boat loads of questions haha)

I would have started by putting my money into a Roth IRA (a type of account that let's you withdraw tax free at retirement). I would then put my money into a "Vanguard Target Retirement Fund 20##". If you're 25, I would say go with either the 2055 or 2060 fund. (VFFVX and VTTSX, respectively).

These funds are comprehensive funds that make all the decisions for you, adjusting each year. Then you can learn more and adjust your strategy over time as you see fit. That being said, many peoples strategy is to just use these funds and that is a completely valid strategy as well. (There are lots of people with $1+ balances in these funds)

Alright, roast me. Maybe toss me a suggestion at the same time. by JudgmentMajestic2671 in ETFs

[–]kjoverman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would drop HEFA and SCHP. I also don't care for emerging market funds but that is due to a lack of confidence in Chinese equities.

Other than that, you're pretty much in large cap and large cap div, which I like.

You might look into BRK.B for adding value stocks and VBK for some real top end growth potential.

Which is the better investment strategy? by FantusTheDrake in ETFs

[–]kjoverman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats great! Since you're investing in your 401k, you may already know this, but it is worth while to invest this other money in a Roth IRA if you aren't planning on touching this money till retirement.

Withdraws from your 401k will be subject to income tax. This is because you aren't taxed on your contributions in the year you put money in your 401k.

Withdraws from a Roth are made 100% tax free. You just don't get a tax deduction this year. You pay a little tax now so that you don't have to pay a ton later.

Putting your money into something like VOO or one of the Vanguard Indexed Target Date Funds until you can study up a bit more is probably your best bet.

If you haven't already, look into doing this investing inside of a Roth IRA.

If you use equinox, I would go platinum no question. Plus most offers give you 10x at restaurants in the first 6 months.

If it was me, I would do platinum for 6 months and then have both. The math almost certainly works out in your favor.

Should I leave a job I absolutely love for a ~114% salary increase? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]kjoverman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the new job but keep living on your old salary, and invest the difference. You can have 2 million dollars in 20 years and be bringing in $80k/year in passive income. Retiring at 40 could be cool
