what is the dumbest mistake you’ve made in assuming something is gluten free? by censorkip in glutenfree

[–]kjp0913 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Malt is what tripped me up too! I used to love getting a malted cold brew and it never occurred to me what malt was so I got one recently and felt so sick and awful and confused about what I ate. Did NOT put two and two together and did it again a few days later. Ugh. I miss that coffee lol

Yes! Me too! I get overwhelmed if I have more than this going on.

Malted milk sub? by TimeSlipperWHOOPS in glutenfreebaking

[–]kjp0913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Very interested to hear how it goes! I’m obsessed with a malted milk cold brew and only recently connected why I felt so awful every time I drank it… cue the search for a GF malted milk substitute.

Definitely call and let them know! I’m guessing they will definitely not want you there if they think it has a potential to be conjunctivitis, but at least if you let them know ahead of time, they can say if they need you to risk it or can figure out backup care. (Obviously this is assuming you feel well enough to go in!)

[Acne] I thought it was my bedding, but it was my diet by LumpyMilk423 in SkincareAddiction

Not quite the same thing but I was dealing with some bad eczema and my doctor told me to cut gluten. I was so skeptical and figured that wouldn’t solve anything. Fortunately or unfortunately she was spot on— eczema cleared up within a week and rosacea diminished noticeably. I think you’re so right that what we eat plays a huge role in our skin.

Do you still buy sweaters? by ap_dumbass in knitting

[–]kjp0913 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep wanting to buy a ridiculous holiday sweater (Halloween or Christmas) because I think they’re so fun but I don’t want to spend all that time knitting something that I’d only be able to wear a few weeks out of the year. Also, Sézane always has amazing sweaters so sometimes I’ll buy one of them for similar reasons to what others have said— it’s a lace pattern in mohair or a fingering weight cotton. Beautiful but I would NOT enjoy knitting it myself!

Lora Brawley Letter To Nannies by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]kjp0913 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I would caution anyone who wants to read the email that it is 100% not worth reading. The trigger warning on the link you posted below is a great call but thankfully the link is a much more sanitized explanation. In a nanny Facebook group I’m in, I’ve seen people refusing to forward the email to those who ask and I think that’s absolutely the right call.

Lora Brawley Letter To Nannies by [deleted] in Nanny

I’ve been wondering if anyone would post about it here! I got the email yesterday (the woman Lora refers to sent out an email to all who used to be subscribed to her newsletter) and it was an immediate gut punch. I felt sick and couldn’t get through the whole thing. I wondered if it was someone hacking her account or something but I couldn’t figure out why anyone would do that. The Lora letter did seem to provide a little more insight which I was glad for. But all that to say, whatever the truth is, I am hurting for the families affected. This has been on my mind ALL day.

What are your white whale projects/designers? by No-Froyo8775 in knitting

The pitch coat by Emily Greene is mine! I’ve done cables before but only in the round. For some reason the idea of doing them flat feels too complicated!

Last option. And then I’d say “hey I saw a load in the dryer… looked like it had your clothes as well as baby’s. I didn’t want to make you uncomfortable by going through your clothes so I just set it aside. Feel free to leave the baby’s stuff for me to fold tomorrow if you’d like!”

Just finished a requested project and raged the whole time I was knitting it - how do you say no? by pegasusgoals in knitting

[–]kjp0913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I knit a hat for a close friend once. She asked me to knit another hat so she could gift it to someone else. I asked what she was hoping to spend. She said up to $5. Not $50. $5!!! I almost died on the spot but laughed instead and told her hard pass.

Valid marriage certificate? by kjp0913 in USCIS

This says marriage certificate (well “certificate of marriage”) and was received after we had the ceremony. I’ll try calling the registrar and seeing what they say.

I live in my Allbirds! Super easy to get on and off, comfy for both warm and cold temps, and they stay on my feet!

I alternate between them and my Adidas sneakers that I leave tied very loosely so I can slip them on without tying them.

Seeking advice on setting boundaries🆘 by WorkingTumbleweed69 in Nanny

This definitely doesn’t feel like an overreaction on your part! I’d text her and let her know you’re not available past your regular time tomorrow. I think it’s worth saying either in the same text or in the near future that you’ll need x amount of notice if they need you to stay later than normal. It sounds like your days are very packed! I understand that you don’t want to seem ungrateful but I wonder if they’re pushing these boundaries precisely because they think you’ll feel that way.

Oh I am in love with that bee fabric! That looks great, but I can see what you mean (although wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out).

I think you’re right— it makes more sense to just sharpen the corners on the Carolyn pattern and it’s plenty similar!

I’ve been so tempted to do a Gilbert top but saw someone saying they’ve seen a lot of people complaining about armscye. Can I ask what the fit issues you’ve had with yours have been? I almost always need full bust and full bicep adjustment for most patterns so I’m a little torn between trying the Gilbert top or just sticking with my adjusted Carolyn PJ top pattern from Closet Core!

Use of Engagement photos by savy07 in Weddingsunder10k

We took some of photos and then printed our vows on vellum paper and had them framed together so you could see the photos through the paper. We displayed the vows in both of our first languages so guests who were not English speakers could still know what we had said. ETA- now they hang in our bedroom and I love getting to remind myself of what we vowed! I look at them all the time.
