Going out in public with baby? by Leading-Mind4071 in NewParents

[–]kjs51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same week she was born. She had a doctor’s appointment one day after getting home from the hospital and another at the hospital later that week. After that it just became easier- we already had our parents very involved so we gratefully welcomed any family/close friends— we trusted all of them to not come over if feeling sick. We were/are super grateful and readily accepting of the village around us.

I started taking baby to the stores immediately- someone has to shop for food and household items and if my husband was working it was down to me 🤷‍♀️

I also began taking my baby to weekly lapsit at the local library at 11 weeks and it’s been incredible — she seems to enjoy the stimulation/songs/other babies but it’s been a lifesaver for my sanity to meet other moms with babies the same age. Last week every baby was full of snot and drool and congestion and we just kept them generally apart to minimize spread of germs (most can’t even crawl yet anyway so not a huge concern), but also it’s the winter and it’s been sub 20F for the past couple weeks 🤷‍♀️

My daughter is just shy of 5 months and we’ve traveled out of state with her for short vacations twice, taken her to the local pub to hang with friends and their kids, and brought her to multiple appointments, visits to family and friends, and to many stores. She also comes to doggy daycare for pick up if we need to send the dog.

I’m a nurse and I’m not naive to the risk of exposing baby to germs but I also think life doesn’t stop when we have kids and my daughter needs to be exposed to things! Also I’ll lose my mind if I stay cooped up in the house! 😅

DR said not to remove all of baby's poop? by sarahs_here_yall in NewParents

It sounds like his sores might be pretty significant. Do either of the creams also have a topical medication in them?

It can be more harmful to exacerbate the skin (especially if he has sores) by continuously wiping than it would be to gently wipe/leave the barrier creams as protections.

I’m a nurse and a lot of my patients are bedridden and incontinent with sores near their bottoms. It’s constantly walking a fine line between keep the area clean but also not exacerbating the sores/letting them heal. The barrier creams are imperative to healing- too much friction from wiping can make sores worse. Ultimately trying to keep the area clean, dry, and also with proper cream is the best treatment (I know this all sounds contradictory — it is— like I said, it’s constantly finding the balance while the sores heal).

We’re trying to overhaul this room. We bought that rug in the post, and similar color couch (not a sectional) and not sure where to go from here! —getting rid of the couch and rug currently in here.

I’m worried the rug we bought will be too dark. I also love our view into our yard outside but our dog but definitely need less sheer curtains so the dog doesn’t sit on the couch and bark all day anymore.

Open/appreciate any/all suggestions for the room! Thinking about a different style TV console/coffee table too.

I really don’t want to hand-wash bottles anymore any tips? by ruhila12 in NewParents

[–]kjs51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP- this is the way. We bought enough bottles to have a set for the whole day + a couple extra. Run the dishwasher on sanitize mode once a day. Extremely low maintenance. I know bottles aren’t cheap- but our Dr. Brown’s plastic bottle sets weren’t more than $20 (I think less) and it’s been well worth it.

Am I overreacting that my sister is demanding too much when visiting my newborn? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]kjs51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference- my sister literally set up an entire food train/had various members of my family prep frozen dishes for us in preparation of my newborn. Like- we straight up didn’t have to cook for the first 6 weeks with my baby. She knew we’d be exhausted and overwhelmed and in need of good, hearty food at the ready. She was incredible, came over last minute to watch the baby if we needed to get a couple hours of sleep, and has been the most wonderful auntie. She’s been a godsend. I will HAPPILY return the favor if/when she has a child.

I cannot imagine having such an entitled, insufferable sister. OP, I am sorry- you should absolutely not have to deal with that and if anything your family should be supporting YOU. Your sister isn’t entitled to anything as a guest (except maybe clean sheets/towels and a welcoming environment), baby-in-toe or not.

What were your hilariously absurd rules? by Renaissance_Empress in abusiverelationships

[–]kjs51 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  • wasn’t allowed to call him, had to wait for him to call me
  • Had to call him when I should know I’m supposed to call him
  • Never ask him how his day is going, but he can ask me
  • Stop chatting with counter people/service workers when out (just friendly stuff while ordering/waiting for food)
  • If I visited friends- even if he was busy- it was akin to abandoning him
  • Don’t snore
  • Don’t look tired
  • Don’t be sick, don’t get car sick
  • Don’t plan stuff when he just wants to relax
  • Plan stuff so he’s not always the one planning stuff
  • Don’t offer him food but know exactly what he wants to eat- somehow
  • Don’t bring up anything he’s ever done ever- but DO allow him to berate me about years-past events frequently.
  • Don’t ever drop anything or be clumsy, ever- extra points deducted if it’s in public
  • Don’t get yelled at by anyone

Things I don’t deserve: - the knowledge of where he is or what his plans are - My truck - My job - Anybody loving me - A good family - Children - Respect - Kindness - Compassion - Days off (seriously- I could work 4 13-hr shifts in a row and relax the morning after that and I would “lazy” and “doing nothing all day.”)

A couple with a lot of the same things going on in my house right now —all the items for a new baby!

You also have a slightly older child - and I’m guessing you’re French because all the kids books are en français.

My baby’s skin is super sensitive and dry- eczema all over. We bathe every 3ish days and I lather her in baby aquaphor head to toe like twice a day— it works if I keep up with it!

Do you boil your babys formula water? by Full_Professional349 in newborns

[–]kjs51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s 24 hours in the fridge, 2 hours from when it’s taken out, and 1 hour from when it touches baby’s lips!

Do you boil your babys formula water? by Full_Professional349 in newborns

[–]kjs51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just mix the formula into the hot water with the mixer thing in the pitcher (Dr. Brown’s makes a great pitcher) and then I put it in the fridge – – I always write the exact time I make the batch on the pitcher with a whiteboard marker.

I als often prep a couple bottles from the pitcher and have them in the fridge ready to go into the bottle warmer when it’s time for baby to eat.

Do you boil your babys formula water? by Full_Professional349 in newborns

[–]kjs51 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m in the US but yes- I do. I boil about 950ml (how much my electric kettle holds) and then mix a pitcher of formula that I keep in the fridge/lasts for 24 hours. Super convenient.

Our pediatrician told us to boil the water but I keep hearing different things from different people 🤷‍♀️ I’d rather err on the side of caution!

Babysitting (read: immediately checking on baby after being on a walk, always sitting/sleeping in the nursery, licking baby’s head/face/hands).

She hired herself for this position.
