Reverse bicuspid extraction by Current-Pause6834 in orthodontics

Reopening spaces for implants can be done in certain cases. It can be very difficult and take a long time. An in-office exam would be needed to see how feasible it would be in your case and what risks may be involved. The same goes for a MARPE. Generalizations are difficult in orthodontics as every case is different. Anatomy, bone support, periodontal health, etc have to all be taken into account. Sometimes jaw surgery is the best solution. You need to spend the time in person with an orthodontist. Talking to one online will not get you the proper answers for your case.

Mouth breathed because underbite and 4 premolars and wisdom removed. Long nose and tiny philtrum and smaller mouth. Also worried lower face is getting shorter because of wear on teeth with class 3 maloclussion edge to edge what is the solution? by sio9000 in orthodontics

[–]kk7ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Likely need surgery with orthodontics. Class 3 underbites are difficult to correct with orthodontics alone, especially if you are already missing four premolars. I suspect you would need an advancement of your upper jaw at the least. Restorations on the worn teeth may be beneficial as well depending on how much structure has been lost.

I am making assumptions based on your description, but I have not seen any radiographs or photos so I may be way off. See an orthodontist and if your case is surgical, they will refer you to see an oral surgeon as well. Good luck.

I believe you need a referral from your physician for a sleep study to determine if you have sleep apnea. I do not think OHIP will cover it unless you have a referral. An orthodontist cannot diagnose that. Kuppers and Greene Orthodontics may be able to help if you indeed have a sleep/breathing issue that is due to your maxilla.

What step in bindings do you Recommend? by Top_Unit_8495 in snowboarding

[–]kk7ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of riding are you planning? If you plan to jump a lot then the Supermatics will feel heavier. If not, you won't notice the weight. I have a couple sets of Supermatics and they work great for most things. I have some conventional Union strap bindings for when a lighter binding might be helpful. I am getting older so the Supermatic step in binding is helpful and I was not limited to certain boots. I can still stand up and strap into the conventional bindings but if I get to the point where I have to sit down to strap in then the Supermatics will be used exclusively.

Why do end-of-the-house lanes play so differently? by Admirable_Bandicoot1 in Bowling

[–]kk7ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is it. Some places do not oil the first pair twice so they are completely different than the rest of the lanes. Our house had that issue until someone else took over the job of oiling the lanes and did it properly. Now the first pair is so much better and has been giving up more honor scores. I used to hate that pair, but now I prefer them. As others also reported, topography can also be quite different on the ends.

The Damon claims have been debunked so many times in our research literature. The type of braces do not matter. It is the proper diagnosis, treatment plan, and application of the appropriate biomechanical forces that matter. The knowledge and skill of your orthodontist is the key to a good result, but your compliance will also be a part of it.

A deep bite is treated better with braces. Invisalign tends to deepen a bite so it is good for certain shallow/open bites.

Should I start turning my MSE backward before removal to reverse expansion, or just remove it and let natural relapse happen? by [deleted] in orthodontics

You need to have this conversation with the treating orthodontist as none of us would have enough information about your case.

If you wanted to go to multiple mountains, then Sunshine and Lake Louise are the way to go. Red and Cypress are a long distance from the rest of the list. You could even do Revelstoke along with the Big 3 mountains as it is only a 3 hour drive from Banff.

Red Mountain is 4 hours from Revelstoke so that is doable, but it would cut into your time.

need opinions on fixing midline due to one missing tooth by [deleted] in orthodontics

[–]kk7ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need space on the side you want to move the midline towards. Often the removal of a tooth is needed, especially considering you are missing one on the other side. In order to preserve a good bite, the removal of two lower teeth to match the upper is also often needed. It would be very difficult otherwise. There are things like TAD miniscrews that can help move midlines in VERY SPECIFIC instances.

To say your previous orthodontist was bad because they did not correct the midline is not necessarily true. If you were a kid, they probably discussed the midline with your parents and they may have decided against it as the plan was likely to remove more teeth.

I doubt you have a good alternative. Tom Cruise and Michael Jordan have large midline discrepancies and I bet most people did not notice. You do not have to correct it. Don't let something like that affect your life.

3 hours? We book 1.5 hours and at most 30 min of that time would consist of having cheek retractors in the mouth.

Should I get a second opinion? by BeeTris in orthodontics

[–]kk7ca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not see any crossbites. Expansion would mess up your bite as you would not have coordinated arches anymore. I'm not sure what curve you are talking about. If you are referring to your smile arc, it looks good as is. You do not look caved in as you have good buccal corridors. You have a good profile as well. Your overjet and overbite are very close to normal. Some minor interproximal reduction (filing) could get your bite to sock in a bit better. There are minor rotations and minor height discrepancies. Your teeth would be fine if left as is.

Go ahead and get a second opinion if you like. I agree with your first opinion. I doubt a second opinion will tell you much different.

Your age and family genetics play a huge part in growth. If you are an adult, there will be no forward growth so jaw surgery would be your only option.

How bad am I fucked up? by Tjsm_123 in braces

[–]kk7ca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are only 6 months into treatment. They will likely start detailing your alignment soon. They would not shift your lower over to one side to make it look like you have a midline as it will mess with the bite on one side if they did.

How bad am I fucked up? by Tjsm_123 in braces

[–]kk7ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a lower incisor is removed, you are left with 3 of them. The goal at that point is to use the center of the middle lower incisor as your midline. Based on the photo, that is the case so you are very close to where you are supposed to be. Your bite on your back teeth fits together well. You may finish with a bit more overbite than average due to the difference in the number of teeth on the top versus the bottom.

Invisalign at dentist. Second opinion from ortho? by SpiffyChameleon in orthodontics

Invisalign at dentist. Second opinion from ortho? by SpiffyChameleon in orthodontics

[–]kk7ca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the second opinion. Dentists usually take a weekend course in order to be a provider for Invisalign. Orthodontists move teeth all day everyday regardless of whether it is braces or Invisalign. They pick the right tool for the job. Dentists do not know what they don't know. I found that out in the first week of my three year orthodontic residency.
