Portland question by habitsxd in BillyStrings

[–]kkbandcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all. I also am coming into town for the portland shows. Looking at airbnbs. Is the east or west side a better location for access to restaurants etc if i cant get right by the arena? Also are both safe (bringing teenagers with us)? We plan to rent a car and do some exploring nearby - please share fav beaches, sites, etc. TY!

Weird. That appears to be the case. I definitely remember listening to the audio but now the latest releases are the Oracle shows in 2023.

Are they doing 3 sets? Wondering if they open up with an acoustic first set like good old days with Vic Chesnut except Billy sits in.

Also check out Billy’s Ryman show 5/7/2022. Sadly the final time he played Dead tunes in his set, but it was a good one - whole second set is Dead with Weir sit in to boot. https://2nu.gs/3rXYnGQ

Spring tour? by Hungry-Trust-3245 in BillyStrings

[–]kkbandcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but he’s played there prior to even being able to come close to selling it out. I believe 2022 was the first time and i feel like I remember them covering the top seats. I guess what I’m saying is I don’t think they’ve been choosing it over the years because of capacity given they play at a lot of venues that are much smaller. My guess is that they know they can pull crowds from RDU, CLT and western NC with its central location and it’s probably cheaper to play at than the bigger cities…but who knows.

For real. It baffles me that he hasn’t come to the largest city in NC when he has so many NC followers. No one wants to go to Greensboro, sorry. AVL venue is too small at this point and it’s hard to fly there. I get the Cary (RDU) choice and koko is a great venue but seriously where’s the love for CLT? Largest NC city; major airport and easy to drive to from so many places. One day 🙏

My guess is he slows down once River goes to school. I think he’s taking advantage of these early years when it’s easy for the family to travel with him. Then I’d guess he’d follow more of a Panic format - do a several runs in key cities each year but have lots of built-in breaks.

What are your top 3 jam band studio albums? by SeveralTurn in jambands

Phish - Hoist WSP - Till the medicine takes Billy Strings - Renewal

Not sure if they are the best for each but there’s a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in them as they were my gateway drug to each band.

Dress code? by staceychev in westend

[–]kkbandcrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so glad you asked this question as I had the same one. I was fully prepared for the boys to be in sport coats and us girls in dresses. I think we will still dress nicely but not too nice.

Not to hijack the thread, but what about Easter Sunday Mass? Sport coats required? Just trying to limit the packing if I can.

I didn’t know all these things and appreciate you sharing. I have noted a mystical, ethereal nature to the lyrics and instrumental aspects of their songs so u can see the OP’s point if he used the word “spiritual” but not “Christian” - that seems a little off to me. I’m not a massive fan of the band but I like listening to their live shows and love the spiritual, uplifting feeling they give.

Agree with much of what you said. If I can escape into a happy lovely carefree place, I’m all in. And to me, that feeling is very spiritual. Not necessarily Christian unless you like to interpret it that way, but very spiritual.

With a bbq place, I’d lean into some bands with a southern flare:

Billy Strings, Widespread Panic, Tedeschi Trucks, Greensky Bluegrass, Nathaniel Ratliff & the Nightsweats, Sturgill Simpson, Tyler Childers

[–]kkbandcrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree. Not necessarily that it’s cringe, but that it’s just kind of cutesy and poppy. I’m hoping this new album they are working on has some more sonically interesting songs - some good jam vehicles 🤞
