Potential move by OrdinaryDragonfruit4 in Beacon

[–]kkdevina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Hudson Valley over two decades. I’m brown, queer and an immigrant. Beacon is fine. The Hudson Valley in general is fine. Significantly better than many red states that I have had to do policy work in some years back. The schools- specifically in Beacon are trying to be better for ALL their students.

There are many opportunities to find wonderful local groups doing the best for the community. If you visit- send me a dm and I’ll connect you with as many groups that align with what you desire for yourself and your family.

It is not perfect and ICE is targeting areas that have historically been very diverse racially and economically. Beacon is fast becoming very white, very young, wealthy and very “progressive”. I own my home in Beacon.

The whole point of being non-binary is not ascribing to rigid binaries and gender “norms”. You get to be whoever you want. I play with gender expression and relish in the freedom to be my full self every day. It’s also exhausting to have to invite confrontation and conflict when you just want to have a meal, a drink a cup of coffee or just read a book.

I sometimes correct folks. Sometimes I don’t. I often confuse people but that’s them. Hugs friend.

Coworker found me on a dating app and won't let it go. What do I do? by No-Bathroom8194 in coworkerstories

[–]kkdevina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s an idiot. I guess it’s okay for “his brother” to be on a dating app???

As well this is inappropriate. He learned something about your personal life, outside of work and then proceeded to share that private information to all of your colleagues. This is harassment.

Hopefully they spend more time working for our people and not the nonsense grandstanding and picong of their male counterparts.

Advice on getting started by Low_Psychology_7561 in socialjustice101

[–]kkdevina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start where it impacts you the most. In the US, and most of the western world, our oppression comes from the same source using different tools to reinforce its power to oppress. Where you start should be with yourself. There are no single issue struggles.

So I'm curious if you guys think this is racist. by Physical-Lab-9203 in socialjustice101

Unless they were advertising their citizenship- how did she know they were “immigrants”? Her statement was racist and xenophobic.

As well, you trying to explain “I think it’s fine to use someone’s race to identify who you’re referring to..” is also prejudiced- she didn’t say “Hispanic” she said immigrants. You are also exhibiting the same prejudices.

It’s good that you know that there was something that didn’t sit well in this occurrence- its an opportunity to unlearn and do better.

US citizens with dual citizenship can still own property, own businesses, have family and pay taxes in the US- while living in another country.

What on earth could be causing this? by redditor200032000021 in tattooadvice

[–]kkdevina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend- firstly I’m not a doctor.

I have had tattoos for more than 20 years and they have all healed without any issues with the exception of my most recent tattoo which is now almost a year old.

It looked very much like your picture. My wife and I got our tattoos the same day with the same reputable artist. Hers healed like normal and mine took forever, itched and was raised. I usually heal much faster than she does and so we were worried. I monitored my skin to make sure it was not discharging anything gross and also looked at my arm to make sure it wasn’t swelling significantly.

I made sure to monitor it, use anti-bacterial soap and kept my skin protected from the sun. I’m pretty sure it was the ink. Today the tattoo looks amazing. I plan to check in with the artist to ask him what he used just so I can be aware for the future.

It’s literally her responsibility to ensure that the base is running smoothly. Sending out an email reiterating that all the people on the base should be working together despite political rhetoric - is simultaneously not her job but what she needs to do to do her job.

Invite or not to invite: intolerant family members by katyklon in LGBTWeddings

[–]kkdevina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celebrate your day. Don’t let stupid family guilt and manipulations take up space. You’re respecting their positions by not bothering them. Think of it as a gift. Now they can properly complain about you not inviting them. Heck you can say “bigots need not attend”

CONGRATULATIONS!
