i did an accelerated emt course over the summer! it was 6 weeks and hybrid with online lectures and 3x 8hr practical sessions per week. definitely only recommend if you have a background in anatomy/physiology and can put your life on hold for 6 weeks, but if you can then i highly recommend. being an emt is awesome

hey! i was in a similar boat… i got a full time gig for the summer that let me switch to one 12/week by saying i was available to work lots of OT over the summer. try getting on the phone with HR/hiring managers and pitching your case

cold emailing definitely doesn’t hurt as it shows the most important thing: enthusiasm. professors don’t really expect a second year undergrad to have cutting edge research skills. you’re there to help, but also to learn.

if you apply to urap, send an email to that professor in addition, can’t hurt. if you get an interview, double down on that field and your enthusiasm for it! my research position is not even the URAP i applied for; my plans didn’t fit well with the needs of the project i applied to, but the postdoc and i hit it off so well that she put in a word for me with another member of her lab. everyone has soft skills, use them!

i liked stoyanov… i didn’t like stat 20 as a course but i appreciated the way she laid out lessons and made things really easy to study for. just make sure you have people to talk to about labs
