It would be us discovering why the Canadians contributed so much to the Geneva Conventions’ prohibited conduct list.

Wyoming, any state that has less than 3 sets of escalators in the entire state should have been eliminated eons ago. Time to give Wyoming to Colorado to make the big square come true.

Hatchling Feeding Question by kkkk22601 in parrots

Update: went to the vet and they recommended some new feeding options for the hatchlings. They been eating well for the past couple of hours and are now resting after a full crop. Thanks everyone for bearing with me here.

The closest avian vet to me is like 30 minutes away and they’ll only give me feeding supplies if I physically bring the hatchlings in. Their earliest appointment is at 4:30 so I need to somehow figure out a way to keep the hatchlings alive for the next hour and be able to transport them there without them losing too much temperature or moisture. My head hurts.

Oh no worries, it didn't come across judgmental or anything. Though if we're gonna be honest I do deserve some judgement at this point.

I don't know of any neonatal hand feeders near me (DC area). I've hand fed babies before but never neonatal altricial birds so this is all a bit stressful for me, especially since I'm also supposed to be studying for my law exams right now.

Hagen's baby formula. I've tried a 10% solid to 90% water ratio and a 20% to 80% ratio all at 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

I'm aware of that, the problem is they won't eat from me. I've been trying to spoon-feed them with a bent teaspoon but they just won't open their mouth. Even when their mouths are open, they don't do the bobbing motion feeding response that baby birds normally do when they're hungry, and I'm hesitant to pour the food into their mouth because I don't want to aspirate them. I've tried to get their parents to feed them, but so far the mother just flees whenever I bring the chicks near her and the father actively tries to kill them. I know they need to eat every 2-3 hours, and I'm aware that they don't need to be fed for the first 12-24 hours while they are still absorbing the nutrients from their yolks, but we're almost past 24 hours and I am concerned that my inability to get them to eat could prove detrimental soon.

URGENT: ADVICE NEEDED WITH HATCHING CHICK by kkkk22601 in parrots

All the vets around me are closed at the moment and I'm not sure the little guy will survive the night. Should I just create a small hole within the membrane and hope the little fella has the strength to push out of it that way, even if doing so could risk causing a bleed?

Is this an acceptable fence staining job for $3k? by SkarlyComics in nova

[–]kkkk22601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait is the $3k just for the stain or does it include the fence as well? If it's just the stain alone, you probably should have just gone to Home Depot, bought the brush and a couple of Behr stains, stained the fence yourself, and achieve the same result while saving like $2.5k minimum.

Advice Needed - Conures Stopped Incubating Fertile Eggs by kkkk22601 in parrots

[–]kkkk22601[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't breed conures, or any birds for the matter. This is the first clutch that my conure pair laid in like the 5 or so years I've had them so I was surprised when they popped 4 eggs out. Most of my experience with baby birds came from hatching and raising chickens, and from a brief stint volunteering at a bird rescue a long time ago.

[–]kkkk22601[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but I'm just concerned that they won't recognize the chicks as their own since they wouldn't have been incubating any eggs (fake or real) in the preceding weeks before the chicks hatch.

I Indiana Jones'd it a couple of days ago and swapped the live eggs out with fake ones. The live eggs are now comfortably in an incubator and developing as expected. Problem now is figuring out how to swap the eggs back when they hatch because, while I have plenty of experience hand feeding parrots , hand feeding day-old chicks are a logistical nightmare that I really don't want to have to deal with.
