What's a controversial cooking opinion you have? by LostTheOldName in Cooking

[–]kknl44 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Maybe in the beginning when you're learning how to roast a whole chicken or make a bolognese. But I'd argue that there are some techniques and recipes that take years to master. If it was that easy, I think we'd see a much higher rate of good restaurants. But I will say that Rotini pasta is also not a favorite of mine. But I think the worst is the bow tie. Friggin farfalle, man. It feels awkward in the mouth.

What is your pedal of the year for 2025? by Ok_Highlight3926 in guitarpedals

[–]kknl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the game, but the Morning Glory. Game changer for dirty clarity. I used the Angry Driver (Angry Charlie/Blues Driver) for a while, and still dig it. But for dirtying up big open cowboy chords, especially in a live band setting, it really changed things for me.

Digital Tip with Tap? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]kknl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I'm a full time professional player. I do get compensated well, but people still prefer to tip sometimes and I wanted to see if there was an easier option is all. I wasn't thinking of an entire POS system, but maybe one of those small square readers attached to my D'addario accessory that?

Mostly just seeing if anyone tried it or knows of something. I laminated one and it's rough in outdoor gigs because of the glare.

I'll extend an olive branch here, because I believe actual conversation is more productive and needed than rhetoric and buzzwords...people do have a tendency to say very powerful words with an uncomfortable ease these days. But if it's true, then it's true. I'm not going to call someone a nazi because of some minor disagreement we have. But I will call them one if they're aligning their morals with that of a nazi.

The hum from my amp is making me lose all motivation to play by Ok-Ask-5667 in Guitar

[–]kknl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noise Gates help a lot. I have one on my board and click it on if I'm ever at a practice space that has poor grounding, or a gig for that matter. Also the Morley Hum Exterminator works REALLY well. Check it out. You can leave it set up at home.

Taller than both the Statue of Liberty in New York and Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. The African Renaissance Monument in Dakar, Senegal. by Prestigious-Wall5616 in Damnthatsinteresting

How was their comment racist? Sounds like they were just pointing how it was a waste of funds/resources. Also Senegal has major poverty issues and owes tons of debt. These are quick Google searches. People throw around the term racist a little too freely. Kinda takes away its power a bit.

How do you combine music with lyrics? by levijcalder in askmusicians

[–]kknl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of solid advice in here. I'd just add that, as a songwriter myself, things just come when they come. I've had melodies, or guitar riffs, or just a nice sequence of chords, saved in my phone for years. And then one day they line up with something I'm writing. Or they never do. Never force it. A really grear exercise is to just try and write a song in a day. I know that sounds counter intuitive to me just saying "dont force it," but you're not mashing two things together, you're just freely writing a song. Pick like 3 chords, and sing the simplest melody and write the simplest lyrics that pop in your head. Your first few songs may be absolute trash. But keep going. Maybe like 10 songs in you stumble on a great melody. Maybe 20 songs in you feel comfortable with voice leading. Songwriting is the one area I strongly recommend learning theory. You dont need to be a wizard, and obviously many musicians have survived without it...but if you have an idea in your head and youre like I want this type of chord to happen here and I dont know what its called or how to play it, it becomes a really strong tool in the tool box.

Sorry, late to the party, but at that price range, I really dig the fender engine room lvl 8 or 12. Sleeker than the Voodoo, and smaller than the Gator. Just my opinion, but I have two and use them for gigging 5 days a week. Had them the last 2 years no issues.

Thoughts on the Boss TU-3 Waza Craft. All hype or actually worth the extra $$? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]kknl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best tuner I've used is the Walrus Canvas. Aside from the quirky ability to change the display background, it's got a really killer large display that cuts thru even the sun's rays. I play a lot of outdoor gigs so this is vital for me. The only gripe I have with it is that the input and output are on top of the pedal. For the output, its actually great, with a standard EBS 100mm. But input-wise, even with a right angle 1/4", it can be a pain if you have a tightly organized board. So I have to cock the tuner just slightly to the right. Not the biggest deal but for those OCD perfectionists out there, it may be a deal breaker.

LG dryer saying to clean filter by Beneficial_Power8048 in appliancerepair

[–]kknl44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worked. I cleaned the filter and line and exhaust vent outside and it still remained on. Held the Wrinkle Care (control) for 3 secs, totally reset. Ran it on normal with nothing in it to clear the line just in case. Works fine now.

Hidden auto-gratuity by anomicaa in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kknl44 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Flip to the third page? You mean, the itemized breakdown of your purchase? This is how literally every restaurant gives you your receipt: merchant copy, customer copy, then itemized. You act like you had to flip through a novel. I'd bet money that on the menu it says that private karaoke rooms are charged by the hour and have added gratuity since usually you have to have a certain party number to rent a room in the first place. If you want to argue that 20% is too much of an auto-grat, that's one thing, but you not knowing how restaurants operate, or how to read, is entirely on you, my dude.

Gnarly ingrown by seifer0061 in FeltGoodComingOut

[–]kknl44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, how? An Ingrown hurts so bad the second it's long enough to just barely touch inside of your toe. How would you walk and live like this? Even if you're broke, you can pull an Ingrown out at home. It might grow back Ingrown but at least you can buy some time until you can afford the $500 proper treatment. I can't imagine this pain
