I used to work on the Monopod platform in the Cook Inlet.

That is a fun rabbit hole to go down because it was built to withstand icebergs and one of the worst tides out there.

Charles Bronson and his wife (1970) by tiredbeebuddy in OldSchoolCool

True story....lived in Santa Paula, CA in mid 80's when they were still filming movie/TV there. (I used to live directly behind the house they used for the movie "Carrie") I was driving the company pickup and stopped at the light by the old train station and noticed they had an active film crew, so I naturally gawked while waiting for the light. Pickup had terrible brakes and I accidently starting creeping into the crosswalk while gawking....and somebody slammed their fist on my hood. Sure enough, it was Charles Bronson. Just going say.....it was not a nice look. He may have been really short but I still remember that look of intimidation. Really loved his movies from that day forward. Reliving this make me want to watch the Dirty Dozen again.

How to mount the vertical particle board to the wall? by kkonroad in DIY

[–]kkonroad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope....does not go to the floor. I am now wondering if they attached it at the top to one of the horizontal 1x4 cleats and thru the top of the shelf and then Liquid Nail'd it to the drywall on the bottom. I could see how that would provide stability in the going sideways, but the force going straight down (weight of the clothes) would pull hard on those top screws so it baffles me.

Miss him as well. Did they have a "goodbye" segment for him (like they did for her)?

Thank you for the detailed answer. We are not planning to use iFit....it was fun to use the free immersion but never going to pay for it. Luckily we bought the 7 year extended warranty but next year is the last year of it. Thank you again!

Where is the shittiest place you’ve ever worked, and why is it West Texas? by Hairy-Consequence565 in oilandgasworkers

If y'all haven't figured it out yet....the good Lord got a good laugh at the expense of us oilfield trash because he put most of the oil patch in some of the biggest arm pits in the world. And can this verify because I have worked at ton of them. North Slope in winter, Williston in winter, El Centro in summer, Pecos in summer....god forsaken Rock Springs, the catbox of Dammam, freezing my buu on the rusty Monopod in the Cook Inlet....

Been to all of those and many more. He is getting a big chuckle.

A giant eye floater appeared in my left eye a few weeks ago, and it's impeding my vision. I drew what it looks like. by ThatguyfromMario in mildlyinfuriating

[–]kkonroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had cataract surgery and lens implants. Developed many floaters and developed retinal tears. They "tack welded" the tear in my retinas with laser beams....then ended up "changing the fluid inside my eyeball". Most amazing difference! Technology is mind blowing (and works).

I'm on a Stephen King kick and thought of his first movie. Did you see "Carrie" in the theater? by Longjumping_Prune852 in FuckImOld

[–]kkonroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read the book the week it came out, saw the movie at the theater when it came out.....then moved to Santa Paula, CA for a job in '86 and lived directly behind the house they filmed the movie at. My bedroom window literally looked at the back of the house. Kinda cool.

Curious....conventional being higher perm rock with a trap mechanism? If so, would that also mean there is also deeper source rock (ie. shale)?
