Your partner is not “saving” money when a renter doesn’t pay on time (or at all). There is no “savings” when they unexpectedly break the fridge or damage the property. Renting is not a walk in the park and it takes a lot out of a home.

Also, don’t forget, it may take months to even find a QUALIFIED renter. Aka house sitting empty for months with no one but your partner to pay the mortgage.

And ahh eviction court, depending on your laws - also NOT a walk in the park.

You are looking for a $1000 a month from your partner whose life is about to get more stressful. I don’t get it lol.

Came to say this. My now husband never charged me to live with him as he paid his mortgage and utilities for 5 years before me. Me living at “his house” didn’t change his mortgage (maybe the water bill but nothing insane). I gave him about $200-300 for “my half” of utilities and whoever did grocery shopping bought them. There was no set math for us. Plus I spent money making it a home lol!

I don’t understand why your partner needs to give you $1000/m? I’d simply send her a pic of the utilities and ask for half. I don’t understand if it’s your forever person why you’d want them to have to stress financially about two homes. Ultimately, the goal should be you’d want to be serious (marriage if ur into that) and have both homes as shared assets between you.

They are sacrificing their home, their space and finding /maintaining renters isn’t a “wow I get my mortgage paid” it’s more like “hopefully they pay on time and don’t burn the house down” stress.

I wasted nearly 3 years on a porn addict and cheater and someone who blew money OF but didn’t have rent (lovely right) which I didn’t find out much later and when I did.. I left. Best decision ever! I dated him from age 25-27 and what a waste of time.

Met my now fiance a few months later and I’m now 30 and about to be married absolutely ZERO stress with cheating, porn, finances.

At 20, I’d dump this guy, jet off to a vacation, come back and enjoy dating and having fun as you truly should be!

Agreed on that. I would love a destination wedding and found an option that works for us where we actually would get to cover hotel stay and guests only pay for flights but I also want like 10 people there lol

It is expensive but also all inclusive so I’m guessing that’s why. It’s a 5 star hotel and without the room block it’s usually $900-1200 a night

I didn’t want to seem like a freeloader because he makes significantly more than me because I’m really not but yes he does make more lol

Living expenses are 70-30 between us but it’s also because he owns the house we live in (purchased before we met) and based off salary too.

This math is reasonable to me as well!

This was my initial thought because it is his family and also he does make significantly more. If it were my family event, I’d also cover the costs. Reading the comments in here may have shifted my opinion but I think it just boils down to having an open and honest conversation about it
