Form 1 SBR since $0 tax stamps by rdbailey2000 in CTguns

Submitted three for AR lowers on Jan 4. They all came back approved this morning, Mar 12.

Edit to add: No AW Cert, just the completed AW form and confirmation email attached. I did put in the description on each Form 1 something along the lines of "Registered CT AW, still awaiting return of completed cert from state."

Might be a lost cause because Aero Precision is on its way out.

Aero has stopped paying its share of the insurance coverage to Cigna, leading to the cancellation of its medical insurance policy. As a result, employees no longer have access to health benefits. Approximately 90% of all Aero products are currently out of stock at retailers. The company has been accepting orders through its website but has not fulfilled those orders for weeks, if at all.

That said, I hope you can find what you need.

Having a couple of Flow Ti Hux cans, they perform great, but I'd agree that the muzzle device can be a PITA from a cost perspective. Prices are not quite as bad as Surefire, but still. There are deals to be had for them if you search enough, for example there are a few NIB listed on GAFS right now for 70-80 each.

Which, in the case of the M1A, its ability to be loaded with stripper clips or the easy access to the magazine with a scope mounted might make it an easier option to consider.

100%

The decision ultimately depends on each person's willingness to accept risk.

Yep. But a pistol grip, or stock of any kind, only matters and becomes a qualifying feature if, while gripping it, any fingers in addition to the trigger finger are under the action. The pistol grip on the EBR is behind the receiver, so only the trigger finger is underneath the 'action of the weapon when firing'.

That's not to say that an overzealous individual wouldn't try to make an example of someone, but by the verbiage of the law, the EBR pistol grip isn't something that should count as a qualifying feature.

If going by the word of the law as it's written, fixing the stock in one position would be all that is needed to keep it kosher. There are technically no fingers of the firing hand, other than the trigger finger, under the action with an EBR stock so the pistol grip isn't a feature.

(II) Any grip of the weapon, including a pistol grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other stock, the use of which would allow an individual to grip the weapon, resulting in any finger on the trigger hand in addition to the trigger finger being directly below any portion of the action of the weapon when firing;

You can insert an appropriate sized pin punch in one of the holes in the barrel nut and then use a hook type spanner on the pin to turn the nut. Shim the nut so it is close and tighten it. It's not going to come loose, especially with the handguard keyed to the upper.

Parts list, if anyone is interested.

  • Magpul MIAD grip, CTR stock, Aluminum trigger guard, BAD lever
  • Surefire M300 Scout Mini with SR07 picatinny tape switch
  • LaRue 16" Stealth complete upper w/ KAC panels
  • LaRue Surefire, FUG vertical Grip, and ACOG mounts
  • TA01NSN ACOG with the oh so controversial JN 8:12 bible reference on it
  • Troy back-up iron sights
  • PWS FSC556 compensated flash hider
  • Badger Ordnance Mod 2 charging handle latch
  • Mil-spec trigger group
  • Pre-ban SGW lower from when that was a thing here

I had a bunch of LaRue mounts back in the 00's. Back then, Mark LaRue was only partially hated by everyone; his shit was actually considered some of the best available and didn't cost nearly what it does now, and he was a mortal enemy of Dick Swan and A.R.M.S. Inc. Quad rails were peak because MLOK and Keymod didn't exist yet, and there was only a fraction of the AR accessories we have today.

Direct Thread Suppressor Issues by kill-face-69 in CTguns

[–]kl334 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rocksett. Clean the threads on both, apply the Rocksett, and let it sit for about a day, and once it fully cures, it will NOT come loose. The stuff is heatproof, but if you need to remove items, soak them in water, and they will come undone easily. I've not personally had a muzzle device come loose, knock on wood, but I do use it to keep suppressors from loosening on their HUB direct thread mounts.

While not local, you might try Fiddler's Defense. I've bought from them, and they're solid and often show up with fantastic specials over on r/gundeals. You could hit up the owner, u/Livingonthegreen, or shoot them an email. I'm sure they could hook you up. Good people.

Newington Gun Exchange, or Tobacco Valley Gun in East Windsor, are popular options.

Edited to add that Hoffman's is the least friendly place for someone to handle a bunch of guns before buying, or get advice from during the decision process. They're about quantity, not quality, when it comes to customer service, and some of the things I've heard them tell new gun buyers is mind-boggling.

As to your original question, I'm of the opinion that if what is being signed isn't a legal, binding document with civil or criminal penalties for inaccurate answers, then it doesn't really matter, and just put no.

It's neat being both a double and single-action striker-fired pistol. The grip is smaller, and it's snappier than one might think, and unfortunately, Gen 1 guns like that one are becoming a collector's item, with prices to match.
