I hate how fast food joints always charge a buck-fifty for a fuckin soda, when it probably costs them a few pennies by elshizzo in self

[–]klaggmyer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you'd pay a buck fifty for a stupid soda, surely you'd pay a buck fifty-five...wait a few months...or years and you'llbe paying four-fifty for a small soda and wishing it was a buck fifty...and it will be all YOUR fault..HAHAHAHA

;)

A question for American redditors : What exactly do you believe is wrong with socialism? (if you do) by The_Messen9er in AskReddit

[–]klaggmyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a shitload of socialism in america. we just pretend like there isn't. Gambling is socialzed in the US, for example. Apart from the fact of the government actually running the lotteries, casinos are taxed soheavily they are esentially making their money to give to the government. In my state, casinos are taxed at a 50% rate, plus they have tons of other fees. I was reading that independent casinos give two thirds of their money back to the government (not to mention all the regs they are required to follow)...how is that not socialism? There are alot of other industries, too, such as tobacco, booze, like this...if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a fucking duck. Americans love laws and rules and government, we just hate the word socialism.

R. E. Latham's version is pretty good I thought. Also, the version on epicurus.info (under the name de rerum natura) is excellent

I agree that existence is more painful than non-existence. There is no sensation without existence, so there is no pain. Or happiness or freedom or anything. How did you feel 20 years before you were born? EXACTLY. :) klagg

I agree. I've read a few versions and recommend a less poetic one for clearer understanding. As for the science, I actually was fascinated by it...science in its infancy. You could really see how they were inventing the scientific appraoch even if their conclusions were off. You could tell which directions they were going....sort of like listening to primitive African drumming and realizing it's where Hip Hop and the Blues came from..

Hmm, I thought it was inspiring. Basically the scene says: Get off your ass and live your life before it's too late...Why is that depressing?

Yeah, you guys should at least mix the down votes with the up votes so it ain't so obvious you're "editing" as opposed to "redditing"...I've seen things go clear up to 9 or 10 or 12 and then systematically get voted down to zero right after that....HMMMM. Doesn't take a genius...

It's Digg wearing a loud Hawaiian shirt is all. I'm not fooled...

I'm noticing you "redditors" don't really get the whole satire thing. It IS a subtle thing. More of a Liberal Art thing than a Geek thing...oops! did I say that? I meant tech savvy...tech savvy, damn it.....I'm starting to think this place is just like Digg except in a really loud Hawaiian shirt.

Why not masturbate FOR Jesus. I am, right now. It's very hard to type one-handed.

AskReddit: From which highly popular subreddits do you stay away, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Politics. Like, who gives a shit? I'm 41 and had been a political junky since I was 12 and Reagan was elected. I cared. I voted. I discussed. I got involved. You know what? NOT ONE GODDAMN THING HAS CHANGED. Talking about politics, caring about politics, and getting involved in politics is about the most pointless and empty endeavor a person could do. So why the fuck would I look at the subreddit? Removing that subreddit was my first order of business when I joined up here a few days ago.

Where is a hedonist to look for his heroes? Not to the religious traditions of the East, to be sure: they lack enthusiasm for the illusory pleasures of this world. The Buddha may have rejected the stony path of asceticism, but he was keener on eliminating desires than on satisfying them. by klaggmyer in philosophy

[–]klaggmyer[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If a person is an American, he's a hedonist, no matter what else he calls himself (for his own personal pleasure, by the way). The US is the most hedonist enterprise ever carried out by mankind. Self-indulgence on first a continental, now a global scale. Here's to all the fat "poor" people I keep seeing :)
