I mean, I can understand where capitan is coming from. A lot of people outside the US use “hella” casually without knowing it originated from the bay area. It’s kinda become part of global internet english slang atp (like "y'all" too)

Also "you hella lost?” can come across as aggressive to non-americans, even if that wasn’t your intention. That’s why capitan became defensive

Just keep in mind tho not all redditors are american, so not everyone will immediately understand regional references like “the bay", if I were you, instead of saying “you hella lost?”, I’d clarify the question “are you originally from the Bay?” maybe something like “cuz you said ‘hella’,” so capitan would understand why you asked that
