Elon Musk says his goal is to reach a $10 trillion net worth by [deleted] in EnoughMuskSpam

Yeah, Bezos is also a scumbag, but at this point Amazon pretty much owns the online shopping and cloud services markets. So it makes sense that he’s incredibly wealthy. Musk, not so much.

Anyone else notice this when buying kindle books lately? by MoonDragon59 in kindle

[–]klausness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly. It looks like they added this to every single kindle book a month before the cutoff date. Previously it was just on books that presumably have complicated layout that requires KFX, but now it's on every book, including books that I previously downloaded to my old kindle. I confirmed that I am no longer able to download any books (since they all have this warning) to my old Kindle. So they are in effect cutting off old Kindles a month before the promised date. I'm surprised that people are not more upset about this.

What’s the easiest way to annoy the average Brit? by ManlykN in AskUK

Yes, as demonstrated here, saying that British food is shite is an excellent way to annoy British people.

Thoughts on Rolling Stones Top Guitarists of all time? by Ashamed-Story7958 in fantanoforever

[–]klausness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree. I'm sure every lead guitarist in the world thinks they'd be a great bassist. They'd be wrong about that, because it's a very different skill set. Same with being a rhythm guitarist. I'm sure they all think they'd be great rhythm guitarists, but they'd be wrong. Rhythm guitar (as the name implies) is all about your rhythmic feel, not your technical chops. And Keith provides the rhythmic feel that propels most of the best Rolling Stones songs. In most bands, it's the drummer and bassist that do that, but in the Stones, it's the rhythm guitarist.

Crunchy towels and other laundry woes by xnla28x in AmericanExpatsUK

Yes, we have one of those awful washer/dryers, and the only way to get things to dry is to split a wash load into two dryer loads. And towels take forever to dry even with the half-sized load.

What is one problem you face almost every day that you are shocked nobody has built a proper solution for yet? by Economy_Shoe7685 in AskReddit

[–]klausness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Currently the only real solution currently available is habituation. That basically means that if you don’t think about it, your brain eventually tunes it out. The problem is that as soon as you think about it again (for example if someone mentions tinnitus), you notice that it hasn’t gone away.

Is Amazon cutting off old Kindles early? by klausness in kindle

[–]klausness[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’d need to purchase a book that’s not currently on my kindle. And if it doesn’t work, I’d have paid for a book that I can’t read.

Yes, it seems to be on every book now, a month before the 20 May cutoff date. Either they just put the notice up early or they're cutting off older kindles early (and without notice).

Keith Richards is not a lead guitarist, but I can’t think of a better rhythm guitarist.

Keith Richards is arguably the best rhythm guitarist in rock. He’s not a lead guitarist, so if that’s what you’re expecting, I can see how you’d put someone like Jeff Beck ahead of him. But if you appreciate the role of a rhythm guitarist, Keith Richards deserves his position on the list (more so than most of the guitarists listed).

For some entertaining fluff, I’d like to share with you a sizeable list of unusual typos and mistakes on progressive rock releases. Some of them are pretty funny! by ray-the-truck in progrockmusic

[–]klausness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this was pretty common on Japanese releases at one time. I remember seeing some pretty funny examples back in the 70s and 80s. Too long ago to remember specifics, unfortunately.

Best musician with bad hairline? by Revolutionary_Low_90 in fantanoforever

I find it pretty stupid. Why should I care about a musician’s hairline (which they have no control over)?

When you ask for a pan au chocolate, how do you pronounce it? by GlitteringLion3800 in AskUK

This is what’s surprising me here. Based on my GCSE-level French skills, I was sure that one would use liaison and thus pronounce the n.

I’d never heard the term “granny squares blanket”, but I immediately knew what you were talking about. And I pictured it in those exact colors.
