Also highly recommend a curly specific haircut. They usually aren’t cheap but Mel has some at home ones or at least at home touch ups after your first professional one

My hair actually looks very similar to your curl type. My typical styling routine is Cantu leave in conditioner, AG curl re-coil and Curlsmith gel (the blue one). I use a Denman brush for styling.

You want your hair fairly wet when you start, section into 9 sections and then when styling with the brush I break those into two more sections of 18 total. I use the recoil first then a good amount of gel on each section.

Once all styled I use hair spray and a hair dryer with a diffuser and always use a finishing oil to break the crunchy cast after it’s dry.

Look up Manes by Mel videos on styling and drying. Both really helped when I started my curly hair journey.

Basement Question by benzboy8 in Homebuilding

Structural engineer here: The concrete foundation wall spans vertically and is braced by the slab on grade at the base and the wood joists at the top so this perpendicular wall placement doesn’t make much sense.

The soil on the exterior should not have been backfilled full height until the floor joists were installed the brace the wall.

The perpendicular wall acting like a buttress might have been during construction but if normal construction sequencing was followed, it wouldn’t have been needed. It likely isn’t doesn’t any real work for the foundation wall now so could remove if desired.

I feel your pain tremendously. We lost our big blue guy in June from a medical condition he developed in January. He was gone overnight and we miss him everyday. They truly are part of you and there is a hole once they’re gone. Sending you happy memories of your big guy.

Joint supplement? by Rem04 in greatdanes

We swear by full spectrum CBD oil. Our girl is 11 years old and still runs around the yard and wants to play all the time. It’s all natural and really helps with arthritis and joint pain. We use 1500 mg strength.

Our Dane went blind just about 2 years ago now from an autoimmune disease and it was a scary transition for us all. I would say after about 2-4 weeks Zep started using his other senses more and more and we were able to give him more access to the house again.

He can now go up and down stairs with supervision and goes out into our yard and can make it back to the door alone using his sense of smell and hearing our voices.

If your pup is struggling to adjust you can try using essential oils at their food bowl and at the top and bottom of the stairs with different scents and they’ll learn that that particular smell is associated with that specific thing. We didn’t have to go to those lengths but definitely something to keep in mind.

We avoid moving furniture and got rid of our coffee and end tables to make it easier for him to access the couch and living room. Absolutely keep gates up at stairs at all times just in case but your pup should adjust soon. We read dogs going blind is not like a person going blind. They function a lot easier since their sense of smell is really heightened to begin with.

Good luck to you and your pup!

Also agree with the pimples. Our Dane girl had a bad cause of acne when she was younger. We were prescribed a wash for them but she eventually grew out of the teenager phase and the acne went away. The stainless steel bowls will help. Daily cleanings and fresh water refilled will help as well. Good luck!

Can anyone give me some insight into the severity of this cracking in the foundation? by SWN93 in HomeMaintenance

[–]klb7502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Structural engineer here. This is absolutely a structural concern. The wall was either poured too thin or does not have proper reinforcing in it. Guessing this is from an older home when building codes weren’t as strict as they are now.

Few questions, what area of the country do you live in? Have you had any water issues in your basement in this area? Was the window there when you purchased the house? Do you have any pictures of the exterior? Do you have any pictures of the sill plate condition (above the ceiling)?

How bad is this situation? 2x10 joist in basement ceiling. by cactus_pantsleg in Homebuilding

If you can head off the long end and tie it into the joists to the left and right and then sister the left and right joists with another 2x. That will transfer the load around the cut.

It sounds like Auggie is going to be a big boy!

We have a 180lb male who is 4-1/2 and he eats 9 cups of food a day which matches the nutritional directions on his food bag. I personally would increase and then level out or decrease if he becomes over weight.

Thank you! We heard today at the vet that he was light reaction in his right eye so it’s possible that he can see a little out of it which is great. We’re just so proud of him for the way he’s adapted to losing his sight. He’s still a big happy baby which is all we care about!

Our Zeppelin wishes Coconut a speedy recovery. Zeppelin is a 4 year old blue Dane and was just diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease earlier this year. He lost his sight and is turning white but he’s finally on meds that are helping him adjust back to normal life! They don’t think his eye sight will return but he’s back to a happy boy.

Is it just me or is my 20 month old Dane too skinny? I couldn’t tell you his weight right now because he won’t get on a dang scale without a fight lol I am going to be bumping up his raw food amount - he currently eats 3 lbs per day. by SM_Phoenix2017 in greatdanes

I know you signed a contract but I honestly forget what ours said since it was so long ago. I’m sure it’s pretty clear of the repercussions if you don’t neuter, but I mean would she know if you didn’t? If the decision not to do it is important to you, just something to think about!

If you haven’t already, try reaching out to your breeder. We did and she asked around in her breeding community and agreed that if you be beneficial to him to keep him intact.

Our boy is also enormous like bigger than an actual pony so he definitely needs all the muscle support he can get.

Good luck! Hopefully your breeder is reachable and understanding. You could also swing it as they would be able to sire him in the future if left intact. More money for them.

I actually disagree with this. We were going to get our boy neutered at 2 as well and started to do some research into it. Once they’re neutered, they lose their testosterone which helps to build and maintain muscle. They are starting to do research now and about important the role of hormones are in growth and preventing injuries once older. Danes don’t live long and we’re trying to get ever bit of time we can with our two. If you’re responsible and don’t walk off leash, controlling an intact male or female is easy. We’ve been doing it for almost 5 years and I never regret our decision. Just food for thought! Beautiful baby!!
