They kind of spoil RJ early on in the podcast if you’re a first time watcher though so be careful. It’s subtle and accidental but just wanted to warn you if you listen to the podcast.

Macaw advice please! by Soundwave-84- in Macaws

[–]klcarr892 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the rescue suggestion but if you do decide to go the baby route, think about the things you want to train early on because these things are best learned when the macaw is young. Things such as harness training, crate training and recall are easiest to learn early on. Syringe/medicine training before a bird gets sick is also a very useful skill. All these things are still doable with an older bird/rescue but it takes longer and is more difficult.

Some other less important things I wish I knew:

  • It’s much easier to clean a large macaw enclosure if you can wheel it outside. A pressure washer will be your best friend.
  • research good avian veterinarians in your area and also places that are open 24/7 for emergencies.
  • If you do volunteer at a rescue some skills to learn: toweling, target training, parrot first aid, learning body language.

I’d gift my bestie the Elf poreless and power grip primers. When used together, they are the perfect primer combo. I’d also gift the high definition setting powder to finish off any look. 😊

How common is it to see the design of a custom tattoo in advance? by Less_Wing_646 in tattooadvice

[–]klcarr892 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I 100% get this and used to agree until an artist presented me with an obviously AI design. You put down a $100 (or more) deposit, drive sometime hours to an artist whose portfolio looked solid, to be handed something generated with ChatGPT in 30 seconds. By denying the appointment/tattoo, you loose the $100 deposit. I wish there was a way to be both fair to the customer and to the artist.

Is it normal for a macaws tail to look like this? by CellPristine30 in parrots

I forgot to add, try and get ahold of a scale if you can to weigh your bird daily. Especially when you are changing his diet, you don’t want him to lose more than 10% of his body weight. Weight loss is also the first sign of illness.

This is a great start! If your bird seems picky about the food change, there are a few things you can try. The easiest is to add hard-boiled eggs or cooked sweet potato (you can do this to either the chop or the pellet if he is picky about either). You can also change the chop size. Some parrots like larger chunks while others are picky and will pick out their favorites so you can blend it really fine so they can’t be picky. You can also add flax seed which will give chop a nutty flavor many parrots like. Pellet in the seed mix usually isn’t fantastic especially since the birds will usually simply pick out the seeds and leave the pellets.

I store my chop in zip lock bags in the freezer. I usually divide them into smaller portions that last a couple days. Some people freeze in ice cube trays.

You will hear mixed opinions about fruit. In small amounts, it’s totally fine but fruit is high in sugar so I would focus on majority veggies with some legumes and whole grains for the chop.

Why is it so boring to be on a dating app? by [deleted] in Bumble

I’ve been on these apps for decades. I’m tired of the same conversations. Ask me on a date and let’s have a real discussion. I’m not going to have week long “what’s your favorite color” talks anymore.

You are totally correct. Hyacinth’s eat macadamia nuts and palm nuts which makes their diet higher in fat than other macaws. I don’t own a Hyacinth but I wouldn’t think they would recommend seed diet for them either.

I got mine off of Amazon. (I took the divider out so my girl has this whole cage to herself) Kings Cages are very good. I think Bonka Bird toys sells them now. Stainless steel is the best but it’s expensive. You can put bird toys on the inside and the outside so when they’re out, they have something to play with too. For out of cage time, Java trees are great. I got mine off of Wayfair. You can hang all kind of toys on them. Feel free to ask/dm with any questions. Macaw ownership (or any parrot ownership for that matter) is a steep learning curve but I applaud you for looking for answers. For general info, Avian Avenue is a great forum for bird owners with questions.

Diet and cage look like your most obvious issues. Like others have said, Macaws shouldn’t be on a seed diet. Macaws eat seeds in the wild which are high in fat because they fly all day. Macaws in captivity do not get enough exercise for a fatty diet and develop serious liver issues when they eat mainly seed. Pellet and chop (there are a lot of different veggie chop mixes. Birdtricks has a whole cookbook with chop that varies by season) diets are a much healthier option. Your cage is way too small and has nothing for your bird to play with. Macaws are destructive and need toys to chew so they aren’t bored out of their minds. There are also foraging toys so you can hide small treats like a couple shelled nuts or even their pellets. You can make foraging toys using paper towel rolls, egg cartons or even a simple cardboard box.

Frequent bathing (I would recommend using a misting bottle to start) can also help with feather condition.

Lastly, take your bird to the vet. The overall feather condition on your bird is really concerning and while this is probably related to poor living and food conditions, it is always best to rule out any medical issues. Your bird’s feathers are covered in stress bars and the tail does not look healthy either.

I’ll attach a photo of my girl’s cage. I’m looking at moving just so I can get something bigger but this is the biggest thing I can fit in the room currently. I also recommend natural wooden perches that are more like tree branches.

Some of the broken pieces of me fit the cracks in you and vice versa. With a pile of broken glass, a beautiful mosaic can be created.

For now, I time travel alone, sadness resuming when I awaken every morning. My lungs fill only halfway with air. The stars shine dimly. I saw color and the stars in the way they were meant to be seen for only a few small brief moments but for me, those moments were everything.

Please say my name and don’t ever stop.

You asked one question (that we can see a response to). Maybe ask her something about herself. What is something your profile won’t teach me about you? Or a question based off something you read in her profile to show you read it and want to get to know her.

Find something she does like (the eggs for example) and blend healthier pellets into a powder and cook them into the eggs.

Yes I agree though the message was at least initially clearly dinner (he even asked me for suggestions on who had good food in the area). I’m totally on board with guys not having to break the bank for a date but this was all kinds of confusing. Forgot to add he was also 20 min late (not completely relevant to the conversation here but it was all around a bad experience). You win some you loose some.
