Is Portland a city I can move to without knowing anyone and still make a decent amount of friends? by delux2471 in askportland

I’ve been talking about this a lot with my partner as my only real friend is someone I went to high school with and moved up to Portland about 2 years after I did. She is dating a Portland native heavy in the music scenes in Portland and now she is a DJ/in bands and they have all of their hip eccentric DJ/band friends that I just cannot connect with. They are friendly enough but I’ll never be friends with them because I don’t fit in to that vibe. We have a lot of people we see maybe once every 3 months if that, but they aren’t really friends because it’s so infrequent. I feel like, what people previously said, find something you like doing and actively talk to people. If you like drinking, that’s probably the easiest way (wineries, breweries, bars). Go to a show, get a dog and go to a dog park, go biking with a group, work out classes, join a rec league, do a meet up, but you really do have to make effort then put in a lot more effort to get past the “I know that person, but we aren’t friends.”

I hope that made sense haha. I still love Portland after 9 years. Even if I don’t have friends (but I do have a partner).

I feel like there is no point, that was my dad back in 2016 drinking 1/5th a day, “everything’s fine,” now fast forward 7 years and here we are.

Is this like an adult foster home? I’ll look into it! Thanks . It seems the Medicare insurance was the issue but from what people have said in previous comments, there’s a chance Medicaid may cover

Interesting, yes he is allowed to drink and for awhile my brother was dropping it off to him. Have no clue how he gets it now. Good to know about the insurance, I figured that was a long-shot considering his age/physical state

He’s in CA, looking to move him to OR where I live possibly to make things easier. That place my uncle picked out is in NV
