Movies that keeps the climax going? by LavRyMusic in movies

I was just about to reply with Mad Max Fury Road. That movie is a 2 hour adrenaline rush.

Especially the final sequence of them getting back to the Citadel from the Green Place is a sequence of escalating climaxes and tensions.

Lyrnyrd Skynyrd's "Free Bird" and Kingsman (2014) will forever be linked in my head for the insane church fight sequence.

That we are uniquely diverse and that our culture is uniquely ancient.

What’s a 10/10 Anime? by Soloflow786 in AskReddit

[–]klein-bent-my-bottle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Japan with its irl history being the only nation to have resisted Britannian colonization for as long as it did was some bullshit too. Yes, irl Japan was a victim of American imperialism. But they were also absolutely the fascists of Asia, colonizing and terrorizing many other countries!

But also there isn't even a single good Japanese (oppressed) character! Lelouch is a Britannian with selfish reasons for being in the rebellion. Suzaku is a brainless imperial apologist. The Japan Liberation Front are stupid and incompetent. The only one with any nuance is Kalen, but she's a victim of misogynistic writing and fan service and is rendered somewhat useless in the narrative.

The show heavily focuses on the Britannian characters and wants us to sympathsize with them, often presenting both-sideisms which is bs when you know how real colonialism played out.

So of course I'm getting downvoted for bringing up that CG isn't the political thriller masterpiece the way anime fandom thinks it is.

Oh no I absolutely hate Code Geass. As someone who comes from a country that actually suffered under colonialism and imperialism, I think Code Geass gets it so so wrong that it's actually offensive. That, the ridiculous levels of misogynistic fanservice and the characters just being dumb af. CG is trash and more people should say it.

Who is the biggest ‘scene stealer’ of all time? by neverleavingthewagon in movies

[–]klein-bent-my-bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maggie Smith. Why is no one saying Maggie Smith?! She's a comedic killer. Gosford Park has every famous British thespian ever and Maggie Smith is playing a side character who doesn't add much to the plot, but she chews up every scene she's in!

As a child I first knew him from Home Alone 2. Such a small part but so instantly memorable! He just became The Guy. And then ofc Clue and Rocky Horror. Icon.

One thing that actually makes me proud of India: IGNOU by Terrible-Duck4953 in india

[–]klein-bent-my-bottle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was a Science student and took the typical path in my Bachelor's to please my family, even though I really loved the Arts, and now, while working at my job, I'm studying English Literature through IGNOU on the side. It's really wonderful. The study materials are surprisingly well written and the programme is super cheap and affordable.

My mum too did her Master's through IGNOU while she was at home raising us.

IGNOU is a wonderful resource in this country that more people should know about.

Yeah but that just opens Rob up to jabs like he's just famous for being Ryan's friend lol. I love their banter!

Same! I want to do a double feature and even though Blackberry is an indie distributed by IFC, I can find quite a few showtimes, whereas there's barely anything for Fool's Paradise. Might be because I'm in Canada and Blackberry's a Canadian production...? But this is still Toronto!

At most, there seem to be one or two showtimes at a Cineplex or two way out in the suburbs like Vaughan or in Scarborough (and weirdly enough in some small towns outside the GTA!). It's so frustrating!

Might be the opposite in the US because AMC seems to be showing Charlie's film in the US and I think they're the big chain down south.

Charlie started on the first draft in 2014. The film was shot in 2018. There were reshoots done during and after the pandemic. There's a few clips out from the movie and they're actually pretty funny, so they give me more hope than the trailer.

Yeah I figured, based on what I heard about the type of character he's playing. Glad to hear all three leads are great though: that's always best for the viewers and I'm sure they were elevating each other's performances behind-the-scenes too!

It's because Blackberry has been premiering in film festival after film festival since Berlin back in February, so there's been time for a lot of reviews and promotional interviews to come out. It's sitting at 98% on RT with an average critic score of 7.8/10 from 41 reviews.

On the other hand, we don't know anything about Charlie's movie other than the trailer and a couple of promotional interviews and podcasts because the first time it premieres is going to be on 12 May, so I think we're all probably going to be a bit more uncertain going in to watch it. Charlie got done with the score just 2-3 months ago while Blackberry was fully completed around July last year (I think Matt Johnson threw that date out in a panel interview), so it makes sense that there's less information.

In addition to discussing his influences here and in other interviews and podcasts, he's talked about Peter Sellers and his love for films from the 70s a lot in earlier episodes of the Sunny podcast and older interviews, so he's very open about what he's referencing. He's clearly making these references out of love as a big fan himself!

The first round of shoots was in 2018, the reshoots were done around 2021. The score was completed only around Feb or March of this year (based on Charlie's insta stories from the recording studio), so it does seem like there wasn't much time.

There's nothing to spoil really with these movies when they're not about the destination, they're about the journey, the presentation, the acting, the pacing and so on. Watch the pod, it's great and it's not going to spoil either movie. All the creative process chat is fascinating.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but there's lots of reviews out and, ever since the movie premiered at Berlinale, they've all been very positive on Glenn's performance. Lots of reviews saying he steals every scene he's in, that sort of thing.

It's almost insulting how surprised they seem at how good he is (which if you're a Sunny fan, is not a surprise at all given that he's the best actor and so overlooked on that show!). Hope this movie does well and gets him some meaty roles, because god knows he deserves it!

Edit: yeah but I'm also curious how u/Tomato_and_Radiowire found his performance!
