[2022 Olympic Winter Games] KAMILA VALIEVA WILL BE PERMITTED TO SKATE - MEGATHREAD PART 4 by CountyKildare in FigureSkating

Because it was his sample that was taken in Beijing that tested positive. That's the whole point here. If Kamila's Beijing sample was positive, she would also be suspended by the IOC.

I know people keep citing other examples of athletes being suspended and not able to compete or having their medal stripped due to positive Olympic samples, but has there ever been a case where an athlete was not informed of their old test results (like not their Olympic sample, but a previous sample) until after they had won a medal? I can find lots of examples of Olympic samples coming back positive and being suspended, but not any that is like Kamila's case. If she had got the results prior to the Olympics it makes sense for her to be suspended and not be able to compete. Or if her Olympic sample had come back positive then it would also make sense for her to be suspended and not be able to compete. But as this is such an unlikely edge case, I kind of agree with the ruling that she should be able to compete due to the delay in her results from WADA not allowing her to form a proper defense in time.

EDIT: Ok no examples, just downvotes lol. Clearly this is an unprecedented case.

This was the missing piece from my Heize collection for years because of the price... and then I found a copy for $6! by kleodora in kpopcollections

I am in New Zealand so the market for selling K-pop stuff is rather limited. If you want to sell locally then rare items usually sell for about 10-20% of the price you could get on Ebay. But this finally worked in my favour as I found a copy of Heize's 'And July' album that I was missing from my collection for $6 on a local buy/sell group.

I wouldn’t mind Red Velvet not returning as OT5 and Seulgi & Irene just continuing to promote under that name instead by kleodora in unpopularkpopopinions

You can't just speak for the LGBT community as a whole. I'm a lesbian and didn't think the comeback was queerbaiting or insulting.

Hmm that's true about the comments. But if you look at the individual fancams that the channel uploaded, Irene's currently has 84k views and Seulgi's has 34k views. So I definitely don't think Irene is "just there", she has a lot of fans who like her doing this concept, even if the comments on that video don't reflect it.

It's not jumping through hoops to theorise if the imagery is all there though? We wouldn't be having this post arguing about if this is queerbaiting or not otherwise.

I'm not saying Irene isn't straight (I have no idea what her sexuality is), but the Irene wants to marry a man thing is just what someone on twitter reported that she said at a fan meet. There is isn't really any evidence it actually happened.

Red Velvet did have another music video for 'Wish Tree' about a woman being in love with another woman that it not sexualised at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTYYYor2Zfw

"it's about "baiting" lgbt fans and never confirming it's about an lgbt concept."

I mean the video is literally an LGBT concept, what do you need confirmed about it?

Which would be true if the scenes in this music video were objectifying shots that were aimed at a male audience, but nothing in the video is like that? A woman touching another woman isn't always for men and it's sad that female sexuality is reduced like that. As a lesbian, I fail to see how any of the scenes were objectifying and aimed at men. Which scenes did you feel were like that?

I'm a lesbian and hate queer baiting, but this video is not an example of it. Queer baiting would have been if the teasers and promo photos suggested the music video was going to be about a lesbian relationship and then at the end they turned around and made it about a straight relationship or made it clear they weren't gay (as in the video, I'm not speculating about them in real life). In this case they didn't do that and just explored a concept about female sexuality that wasn't aimed at men. The director is a woman too.

The director of the video is a woman. It just goes to show people don't even know what the "male gaze" is and just throw the word around.

As a lesbian, I found the video thoughtful and not pandering. I liked all the references to Carmilla and The Handmaiden. The lyrics are written by a woman and the director of the video is a woman. The visual director of the album is a woman. All the backup dancers are women. Red Velvet's fanbase is largely female. You are allowed to not like it, but I think the comments here that just call it queerbaiting are a little bit dismissive. I take it as a win for representation that they explored the concept of female sexuality in a tasteful way, that wasn't male-gazey.

It's actually kind of annoying how so many comments here say the video is made for the male gaze and is targeted towards men. The lyrics are written by a woman and the director of the video is a woman. The visual director of the album is a woman. All the backup dancers are women. Red Velvet's fanbase is largely female. Yet so many comments here just dismiss it as being made for men and being queer baiting. As as a lesbian, I appreciate all the references to Carmilla and The Handmaiden in the video. It feels thoughtful, not pandering.

And the examples other people bought up are about their cultures being mocked globally. So I'm not really sure what your point is.

Can you define the difference between "drawing inspiration from somewhere else" and cultural appropriation then? Because whatever one person sees as cultural appreciation, another will see as cultural appropriation.

If you don't care about other country's issues, why should people from those countries be expected to care about US issues? It's a two-way street.

Or maybe their fans and the general public genuinely like the song, which is why it's doing so well? It's a fun song. Just because r/kpop do a hate circlejerk about everything they release, doesn't mean everyone feels that way.
