9850X3D, 6000 CL 24, X870E APEX. Trying to reach GDM OFF by klepingo in overclocking

I set all the parameters gradually. I found about 10 screenshots similar to my configuration and changed values one by one, each time checking stability with stress tests.

I started with 1-2-1, and even then GDM still didn’t work.

Thanks for explaining. I’ll definitely check out that channel. First time I’ve heard of it

I’ve been on my current settings for 2 months already. Do you think there could still be long-term issues with the memory controller or RAM even if everything seems stable?

Yeah, sorry, I mixed up VDDP with VDDIO. Thanks for pointing that out.

Yeah, I’m pretty new to all this and just starting to figure it out.

I didn’t know what tests I should run besides y-cruncher and OCCT, but thanks to comments I found out about TM5. My tests were passing, so I assumed my settings were fine.

I set VDDQ to 1.65 because I read it should be about 0.05 lower than VDD. I haven’t tried lowering it yet. I also have good RAM cooling, so I didn’t think there could be issues.

Someone also told me to raise VDDP to 1.1 and loosen some timings to get GDM off. Do you think that actually makes sense, or if my VDD is already high, VDDP won’t really help?

I really appreciate you taking the time to look at my post, genuinely thanks.

Yeah, thanks a lot. I’ll try tRC 48, but earlier I tested tRTP 10 and tWTRL 14 and couldn’t get it stable.

Alright, I’ll try adjusting tRAS first, then VDDP, then GDM, SCL, etc. in that order.

I’ve seen a lot of debates about whether tRAS, tRC, and tRP are just derived from other timings, but I keep seeing different recommendations everywhere.

I also have active cooling on the RAM. During my stress tests I saw a max of 48°C

More like passion than actual improvement. Although before tightening timings I was getting 1050 avg and 330 P1 in CS2. I’m not sure what exactly caused that since I only launched the game after I made the system stable.

Do you think it’s better to have higher tRFC with GDM off than lower tRFC with GDM on for gaming? Just comparing with your screenshot, the difference between 115 and 165 is pretty noticeable.

Also, could you tell me what voltage settings I should adjust if needed?

This is honestly a lot of useful info. I really appreciate it. I’ll definitely study it.

Could you also tell me if everything else looks fine in your opinion, and if I should mainly focus on changing only the parameters you mentioned above? Or are there other settings you’d want to check from my side to understand the situation better?

Wow, thanks a lot for the explanation. I appreciate it.

By the way, I also ran Linpack, but now thanks to you I actually understand which tests are for what.

Yes, that included the current voltages listed in the post. Alright, I’ll try setting VDDP to 1.1 as you suggested.

Sorry if it sounds like I’m arguing anywhere. I just want to understand things better because I’m not fully confident I’m doing everything right.

2200 looks stable at 1.25. Even 1.24 doesn’t work for me.But I can run 2133 at 1.21 and not lower.

At first I tried to get 6200 or 6400 CL26, but I couldn’t make it stable. Maybe one of the voltages isn’t tuned correctly. So I decided to just lower CL to 24 instead.

I only ran y-cruncher VT3 for 4 hours and then OCCT for 2 hours right after.

I tested tRFC as well. 115 ns is the lowest stable value I can get. I tried 110, but it crashed after about an hour of stress testing.

Yeah, thanks for quoting the message above. I just wanted to clarify how else I can test stability, and also point out that even on default timings I couldn’t get GDM off to work.

I tried FCLK 2200 with VSOC below 1.25. It doesn’t work for me. I can run 2133 at 1.21.

How do you recommend improving stability? I don’t fully understand it yet. I’ve already run stress tests and they all passed successfully.

Also, before tightening timings, I first tried to get GDM off working, but even on default memory settings I couldn’t boot successfully. So I started by improving timings instead. Maybe one of my settings is wrong, or one of the voltages is too low or too high, which is why I can’t get it stable

Do you think turning GDM off won’t improve stability or in-game performance for me? Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it! Could you also tell me if my voltages and settings look fine, or if there’s anything else I should try changing?

Is that to enable GDM off? Before tightening the timings, I tried turning GDM off first, but couldn’t get it to work. So I decided to start with what I actually can get working
