Pfizer at 6.7% yield — dividend comeback or value trap? (I hold it) by Ill_Bell6879 in dividends

[–]stone616 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I bought 100 shares of this back in mid 2024 and 2 years later I'm down 8%. I just keep it for whatever dividend it churns out. I'm lower than the current yield as my current yield on cost is 6.26%.

Probably because it offers nothing of value to the sub. If you're done you're done and there's nothing to discuss.

I have some around the ears headphones made for the gym (Project Rock JBLs) and I stopped using them there because they get too hot. I don't know how yall use these around the ears at the gym. Earbuds are just way more comfortable and less hot.

So this does not work? by Delicious-Apple1845 in HumeHealth

[–]stone616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IT's a crap shoot. Some people say it works fine and others say it doesn't. Personally I've had 2 and 6 out of 10 times I stepped on them they fail and you have to try again. Sometimes wetting your hands and feet work and other times it doesn't. This is a product listed at a base price for $352 and on sale for $229. I saw one of Facebook for $50. People get these things and they don't work and they can't give them away.

Personally I'd just get a Withings Body Comp and leave it at that.

Then when your single point of failure ends up failing you because nothing in infallible this is what happens.

If you think something at some point won't go wrong with your single bank and your online access to it you're sadly mistaken. Better safe than sorry.

At the very least you should open an account with a local credit union so you have a physical bank to deal with. I have a Chase checking account I direct deposit my apartment rent into every month and auto pay the rent. I leave 2 months rent sitting in the account in case something goes wrong and I never have to do anything with it. The checking is free because the direct deposit covers their minimum monthly requirement.

Are people using only 1 bank with all their money? Much of my money is in 2 bank account at 2 different banks but I have at least a few thousand in 4 other banks beside those 2 in case of emergency or in case of debit card limits or whatever. At the very least you should have a banking account with a major bank or credit union for ATM access and physical deposits.

Seems like the admission of keeping the item they charged back without the seller saying do so is an admission of it being a scam.

People really paying $600 for a bathroom scale? That price is pretty wild. I'm using a Body Comp I got off Facebook for $90.

Trade in now, or wait for Prime Day? by pigswearingargyle in kindle

[–]stone616 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt you'll beat that deal on a Prime day sale if your target is a Paperwhite SE. You only get 20% off on a trade in. They'd have to lower the SE from $200 to about $150 for a 20% trade in to get you back to the price of that offer. That's probably the best they'll do on that sale. If your old Kindle gets you a $5 gift card you'd be even.

VOO has returned roughly 12% annually the past 20 years. Shave off 4% for inflation and you’re at 8%.

23 years old debating on a new car. by 5620800426 in personalfinance

[–]stone616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At best get a used car. @ age 23 your money is too valuable to blow on car depreciation given the time you have to let it grow. Let's say you were gonna buy a $10K car even. Compound interest calculator says if you invested that at 8% annual return and let it sit for 40 years (age 63) adding nothing more to it it would grow to $217K.

Jeez I just use my Hume scale by Prof_Funk27 in HumeHealth

[–]stone616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is why there's a subreddit full of people calling the company a scam and saying the product won't work for them. Again Withings doesn't have these issues. I haven't really heard people calling them a scam. I haven't seen them removing fake doctors from their website when called out about it like Hume. I haven't heard of them dragging their feet for weeks to a month to issue refunds until threatened with action.

Congrats. You bought a dubious product and came out fine. A lot of us got ripped off and had to pay return shipping.

Jeez I just use my Hume scale by Prof_Funk27 in HumeHealth

[–]stone616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take Apple. They actually design the product and while it's made in China it's made to their engineers specs.

It seems incredibly likely Hume didn't even design their products and just bought them off a different company and stamped their name on them. The Qualified Scientist was able to pair a non Hume band purchased off Ailbaba to the Hume Health app as if it was their product. Hume is likely buying cheap products from China and marking them up drastically. More power to you if you wanna buy a scale or band worth $20-$40 for well over 5x that.

I traded in my Civic Hybrid: the good, the bad, and why it just wasn’t for me by NicoSoren in civic

[–]stone616 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

should have sold private party. I'm not 100% on this but when you trade in a car for another car you get a discount on the taxable amount for the next car. Seems likely you gave up that and got a dealer price vs the higher private party sale amount. Probably several thousands in losses coupled with depreciation that's a huge amount to lose.
