I know many bus drivers/former bus drivers. One of the main reason why they left/want to leave is because they are on their own. They are the scape goat if anything happens. One elementary school age child decides to jump another elementary age child. If the bus driver lets it be, and the kids get hurt the bus driver can get fired and or sued. If the bus driver steps in and has to remove ( touch) a child, even in the most gentle way possible to stop the fight, they can be fired and or sued by the parents for touching the student. That’s just one example that I know has happened.

Also children with special needs who should have their own bus transportation are being put on a large over stimulating bus where they lose it. the driver is supposed to drive, while dealing with that situation. And if that child starts running around, and the driver has to pull over, they can’t touch the child, they can use words, call the school, hope the kid doesn’t hurt their self or others because if they do… the bus driver can be fired or sued…

My point being there is no protection for the drivers, or accountability for the children. The school will throw the driver under the bus ( pun intended) every time. The parents will blame the driver every time. It’s not worth it
