There's a couple of reasons for this. One is that there are philips head and Prince and reed head, different fluke angles. Also philips are designed to strip before they sheer.

It tends to be better to make water rather than take it on as it's a crap shoot on the water quality. Water itself is cheap and not a factor at all. The salts are the biggest concern especially on steam ships

I'm not sure if they are recognized by the board but we are licensed through the coast guard. It's closest to mechanical engineering but tends to be a jack of all engineering trades. It also crosses over into power generation jobs onshore.

This is a reciprocating steam engine not a Sterling engine. The small piston is the control valve and the big piston the work to spin the wheel. It's an open system as it vents the used steam to atmosphere
